To me that's more like a warning, not to go below 87.
Let me translate that for you... that's legalese for "Regular fuel is perfectly fine but for legal reasons we're not going to explicitly say that"

But hey... if you wanna ignore over 2 decades of proven data and spend another 20% of your hard earned $ on gas so you can sleep better at night then knock yourself out.

I have always used 87 on all of my cars that say that they are OK with 87. The key is Top Tier. My last car topped 300,000 miles and my wife's is at 195,000. Never ever had any problem with any fuel related issue or performance. In CT during a recent fill up the cost difference between 87 and 93 was over $1.00. I drive 26,000 miles per year. It is not about affording it....just about wasting money for me.

Because the car drives better.

Interesting. My experience indicates that the car gets better mileage when running 89 or 93 octane than it does on 87.

Yes that sounds correct but a consumer just sees that cost each time they fill up.

I'm over trying to explain something your brain obviously cannot fathom, logic and plain English, will not delve into your version of legalese. You do what you want

What legal reasons? They said, it will run on 87 octane.

That's saying 87 (RON91) is fine to use Also says LOWER may damage the engine.

Don't ignore "... or higher".

Higher octane may provide better performance. It does on mine.

This has been notated in every owners manual for many years. It means, you may damage your engine using lower octane than 87 (91 RON). The "or higher" means, you will not damage it using higher octane.

So, using higher octane than 87, is completely fine for your vehicle. It ends at that. Any perceived performance improvements are just perceived.

The article seems to imply that 91 is best but 87 works as a minimum without any issues.

It's the same fuel grade, 87 is AKI or (R+M)/2 and 91 is RON

It's saying the minimum you should use is AKI 87 which is also known as RON 91.

Here in N.A. we use an average of RON + MON which we call AKI thus a RON 97 in England = an AKI 91 here in N.A.

Yes the computer can compensate only so much.
