I wonder if adding thin spacers would alleviate any clearance concerns with 255/55R20s without causing new ones? Adding spacers is somewhat common in GX-land to make the thing look better.

That is odd. When my 2018 was new, I did a fairly rigorous multi-run milemarker timing exercise to get a calibration on my speedometer, and it was within the margin of error of my ability to check it.

From what I saw in my driveway today, there's no risk of interference when turning the car if you changed to 255 -- the risk is bottoming out the inner fender in case of full compression of the suspension -- that could also be the risk in the rear.

Same here on my 2017. Verified with GPS and street-mounted speed sensors.

I have 255/55/20 and it’s pretty darn accurate, at least much better than the original size!

Matched with Waze and my radar detector!

Default RX w/ OEM wheels at 255/55/20

I read this thread a handful of times before deciding on my 255/55/20 tires. I went with Pirelli Scorpion A/S Plus 3 (70,000 miles warranty). One of the best brands out there.

After having these on since September 2022 and about 4500 miles later, there has been 0 issues.

It looks much more beefy and stands out just a little more than OEM size.

I questioned myself over and over if I should have went with 255/50 instead because of the attractiveness and handling aspect from a smaller sidewall. However there is not really a huge difference I can complain about. It’s only 5mm really.
The 55 sidewall provides better shock absorption and maintains a smoother ride. I went with 255 width since these are stock 20” wheels, so I didn’t want to go any wider unless I’d get different wheels.

The biggest difference here is upgrading to 255 width from OEM. Immediately there was a difference in its traction control and cornering. Much more grip and stability.

Let me know what you guys think! Hope this helps anyone looking to upgrade to bigger tires!!

All pics below are 255/55/20.

Ignore the black line.

Default RX with 255/55/20 OEM wheels

I’ve read through numerous threads before deciding on my 255/55/20 tires. I went with Pirelli Scorpion A/S Plus 3 (70,000 miles warranty). One of the best brands out there for performance and tread wear. 12” tread depth.

After having these on since September 2022 and about 4500 miles later, there has been 0 issues.

Looks nice! May do the same to ours next time.
Possible to go a bit wider? Did that on our Jetta.
Does the size diff affect the speedometer/odometer at all?

since my son works at continental tires, i get a discount so when it comes time for replacement i have a few options:
stock replacement
CONTINENTAL
CROSSCONTACT LX25
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
  • Size: 235/55R20 102V or H which gives a 5000 mile bump on the warrantee

255/50
this has a 0.7% smaller dia giving you 69.5 vs 70 on the speedo
goes from 9.3" to 10" wide

CONTINENTAL
CROSSCONTACT LX SPORT
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
  • Size: 255/50R20 109H XL
or
CONTINENTAL
EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS
Ultra High Performance All-Season
  • Size: 255/50ZR20 109Y XL
  • i have these on the wife's infiniti g37 convertible. this set has been great by the first set i bought did not last too long

265/50
this has a 0.7% larger dia giving you 70.5 vs 70 on the speedo
goes from 9.3" to 10.4" wide

CONTINENTAL
CROSSCONTACT LX25
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
  • Size: 265/50R20 107T
  • these are only T rated, i think he can get cooper too, but they also only have T speed rating in this size.
PIRELLI
SCORPION AS PLUS 3
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
  • Size: 265/50R20 111V XL
  • guess i compare if Costco had these. this is the one i would pick for 265, but no son's discount

285/45 too drastic?, but matches the best dia., worried about the width rubbing
this has a 0.3% smaller dia giving you 69.8 vs 70 on the speedo
goes from 9.3" to 11.2" wide

CONTINENTAL
CROSSCONTACT LX SPORT
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
  • Size: 285/45R20 112H XL
I really have been searching for PRO CONTACTS continental . I'm coming from scorpions and really disliked them . They lasted above warranty never gave me issues but I want Way better handling . Which I think Pro contacts will give me but have no idea 🤷‍♀️

good lookin. Just finished with my scorpions I need new set I'm at 76k miles on my current ones with never having a flat or a nail in tire . I did rotation every oil change . I see you posted not to long ago so you have a nice life left on those tires

I personally was blaming the tire on the grip and scared of it . but you're saying you upgraded the width and that should help thx !

No issues turning, braking or maneuvering. Thanks for your help! Posted some quick picks while the folks from ASAPtire were installing the tires in my garage - awesome home service.

Hi . Thanks for sharing . Was curious how you would feel about 255/55/20 considering what you have right now .. Im debating on either your size or this size .. 🤷‍♀️

I am currently on factory 235/55/20s. It looks anemic though. Tires look too small in relation to wheel well besides being pencil thickness.

anyways, I am wondering if anyone has tried going 250/60/20. I need more side wall at 55 it feels bumpy and feel all road deviations.
