The obvious issue here is that it's easy to forget to do it I'm not going to tape mine either, but it's really stupid it's not an option. Of course, given that it's probably the EPA involved, stupid is the norm.

My 2017 RX defaults to ECO, if that's where it was when it was shut off and to Normal if that's where it was at shut off. I just got used to flipping it to Sport each time I start it.

Makes sense since eco only improves mpg.

Unfortunately, it's hard coded in the ECU firmware. You cannot override this setting as far as I can tell.

Default Driving mode selection - Help!

Bought a 2020 RX 350 F-sport a few days ago and ECO mode is really starting to drive me insane. At the dealer, I was told it starts in ECO mode no matter what. I have set it to normal but after coming to a stop it goes back to Eco, same thing happens when I turn it off on normal mode and then turn it on , it starts on Eco.
Is this something that it was implemented in the newer models? If so, has anyone found a way for the it to stay on normal mode and not revert back to Eco?
I own a 14 GS 350, default drive mode is always normal. Eco has to be set manually.
Thank you in advance. Im sure this question has been asked before but I found no concrete answer.

ECO mode, as selected by the Drive mode dial, is not the same as the green ECO symbol that lights up when you're driving in the most "Economical" way.

Don't worry - unless you have turned the dial to ECO (and your dash display has the blue background), you will still be in NORMAL mode. I believe there is a setting in the Menu to turn off the ECO symbol indicator if that annoys you.

I paid dearly for a loaded F-Sport. Mine goes into Sport+ as soon as I let off the Start button. I know what I want, I paid for it, and I set it every time before I'm out of the driveway. Screw "Default"!

Thank you for clarifying that ECO mode is not the same as the ECO light. I will try to turn off the light, maybe it will bother me less.
Thank god I will not be driving it regularly, the response is so sluggish 🤨. Will be driving it in Sport from now on.

After searching the forum I found some answers on how to turn off ECO light. On the newer models, the process is a little different so here it goes.

How tu turn on/off ECO light on dashboard:
1. Press the menu button on the steering wheel (the one with the 3 squares)

2. Scroll all the way to the right until SETTINGS icon is reached.

3. Select SETTINGS and then select VEHICLE SETTINGS.

4. Scroll down until METER SETTINGS is reached and select.

5. Select ECO and turn on/off.

Default Make Sport Mode the Default?

Does anyone know if one can make the Sport mode the default? The steering is WAY better in Sport & I see very little difference in the mpg.

It appears that there is drive mode customization on F Sport models, according to my 2020 owner's manual. It allows "chassis" customization to Sport mode, which I assume covers both adaptive dampers and the steering. Powertrain customization to Sport is not allowed, even on F Sports (probably for CAFE reasons.) I tried to find the customization menu on my RX350 base, and it was not there.
