2018 RX-L Captain's Chairs Questions
My family is interested in the new '18 RX 450hL. The captain's chairs are standard when you build on Lexus' website and you can't choose the bench option for the 2nd row despite of what is advertised. We have not seen any in person since they are not yet on the lot. I couldn't find any 350L with captain's chairs to try either.
We are a family of 5 and this will "not" be the main family car but we will occasionally use it for the family. So here are a few questions to those who may have encountered the captain's chairs or know more about Lexus:
1) Are the captain's chairs adjustable? Do they move forward and backward to allow to get to the 3rd row from behind (not just through the middle aisle)?
2) Do the captain's chairs fold flat if extra cargo space is needed?
3) What would be the max height for someone to sit comfortably in the 3rd row?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ah, interesting.
Don't think you get those in Canada.
The US website says
From Youtube search,
1) Yes, they are adjustable
2) Yes, they fold flat, and gets you even more room than with the bench chair
3)Not sure, but it is designed primarily for kids
You can see the seats being folded, both captain and the bench.

The US website says

Lexus Champion
Obviously not exactly comparable, but we got our Highlander with the second row captain's chairs and it's really a great way to go. Like in the RX, then are adjustable and fold flat, making for lots of cargo room when needed. They are very comfortable.

Which they would give us the rear captain chair option on all of the RX models.

The year I got my GX the captain chair was introduced. At the time it was hard to find a bench option but I found one. Having that option means you have the latest model but I was reluctant because I didn’t feel I need 3rd row often and don’t want tonlose a seat in second row. So I went with bench option. I’m so glad I did. I only used 3rd row twice when I had to haul my son’s friends around. After that the 3rd row stays down. I can’t see how people can seat there in an RX because the GX is higher back there but only up to teens can sit there comfortably. Adults and big kids won’t. Sounds like your situation is like mine.

I'm usually flying solo in my 2017 RX except on at times on weekends when I have a friend in the passenger seats. For a few longs trips we have 1 or 2 teenagers in the back. I'd just buy the 3 row seat L model to get the captains chairs in the 2nd row and the occasional 5th passenger gets the whole back row.

I assume I'll be seeing the three row RX for the first time on Saturday at the annual Kansas City Auto Show. I'm going to ask a 6' 4" tall friend to try sitting in its 3rd row!

Thank you. I plan to try both options in person. I have two teenagers and a 5 year old that will be in a car seat/booster. The big kids want the captain's seats because they are more comfy for them. I am not sure if two big kids and a car seat would be comfortable in case of a 2nd row bench. I wish the 3rd row would have a space in the middle for someone to sit and stretch their legs.
