CPO 2016 with only 4,300 miles
Charlotte, NC dealer has an AWD w/NAV, premium package, heated/ventilated seats, for $45,991. As near as I can figure the MSRP on a new one with the same features is $52,400 though I could be messing up some options or leaving out an accessory or 2.
Salesman says the CPO price is firm. Assuming that I can negotiate the new model down at least a few thousand, it appears to me that the discount for the used model isn’t that great.
Any opinions?
Any guesses as to why a 2 year old car might have but 4,000 miles? Carfax says 1 owner. Perhaps it was a loaner or courtesy car driven many short trips by many drivers?

Does not seem to be a loaner by the dealer. Here is all the work done on it. If it listed at $52,000, the average discount on new RX's is 10%. That would bring it down to $47,000 if new. This is two years old going shortly to three years old. I would not pay more than $40,000. Give them all this info when making your offer.

(please let me know if I'm missing something) If they accept 40k do you think it's a good enough deal to jump on or is it worth getting the newer version? I'm not under time pressure so I could wait for the 19's to come out and hope to score a better deal on an 18.

Off topic but related: I just test drove a 2018 Honda CR-V and was blown away by the customer service. Fully loaded for $35 MSRP. INcludes free oil changes (MOBIL 1) and state inspections for life! Free lifetime warranty- no deductible- on power train, also on any repairs that they perform. 250 mile towing.
The car is no Lexus to be sure but it blew away anything I’ve driven sub 40k. They encourage a multi hour or overnight test drive.

careful with the CRV. There's widespread issues with that model including oil being diluted by fuel and issues with limited heating capacity in cold climates. I owned a 16 CRV and dumped It after 9 months. Worst riding, noisy piece of junk ive ever owned. Thank goodness they hold their value so I didn't take a beating financially.

I owned a 16 CRV and dumped It after 9 months. Worst riding, noisy piece of junk ive ever owned. Thank goodness they hold their value so I didn't take a beating financially.
Is oil being diluted by fuel something that would be covered by a lifetime warranty on the engine? Inadequate AC is a much bigger issue in Charlotte than heat. The 2017 is a new model so maybe they’ve addressed some of the issues you had with your 16.

Seems to me even $40k might be a bit much. I purchased a similar RX350 in March of 2017. It was a dealer loaner with pretty much the same options. ( AWD, heated & cooled leather, 12.3" NAVI, Lexus Safety System, Premium Package, Parking Assist, moon roof, Expresso Walnut trim, all weather mats and Touch Free Power Rear Door.) Original sticker price was just under $52,000. Clean Carfax with no accidents. It got the L-Cert CPO coverage. The mileage was a bit more than yours at 13,000 miles. The purchase price was $41,000. Either I got a really good deal or they are holding their value. As mentioned, if a new 2018 lists at $53,000 and can be purchased for under $50,000, I would do some serious bargaining with the dealer.
