That's what I believe. Where did the extra 25 horsepower come from? Timing maybe. Certainly not from the pseudo dual exhaust. Still only one muffler with 2 exhaust ports. Real dual exhaust comes with 2 direct lines each from each manifold.

What 25 extra horsepower? The 16 and 18 are both rated at 295 hp. Are you in a different country from the US, where model years were different? Or are you comparing a RX350 to an RX450h? Or are talking about a year other than 2016?

I have a 17 RX 350 and the 6th to 5th downshift slams hard. Dealer says nothing wrong with the vehicle & unable to duplicate the issue. When I have some time I'll take the service technician for a ride and demonstrate how hard is slams. Even does it in manual auto-stick mode with and without Sport Mode enabled.

Mine has maybe 2 or 3 times had a rough downshift when the cruise control changes down gears to slow the car on a decline, never under brakes or any other time. Had the car for 18 months, 49,000 km, haven't mentioned to dealer as the infrequency hasn't bothered me....and I forgot at service time.

Resetting the ECU would be worth a try, doesn't hurt anything.

When I downshift from 6th to 5th in manual I get a clunk 3 out of 4 times.
Why smoothly some times, I haven't the faintest idea.

How can you tell its 6 to 5. The few times ive felt it, it was from a hard stop after being in highest gear which I guess was 8.

As I'm downshifting, going up a hill or slowing down, i can see in on the HUD. It only happens from 6th to 5th. What you are describing, at least to me, is decelerating rapidly to about 10 mph and then accelerating rapidly creates a rather violent lurch which I have never felt in any other car, it confuses the tranny.

The few times I felt it, there was no acceleration - totally on the brake.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing this downshifting issue. I recently told my service manager and even drove around with the tech to try to show him the "slipping gear" feeling when downshifting but unfortunately it didn't happen then. I left the car a few days and they said they found nothing. No software updates or anything was available.
My RX350 F sport has 13k on it and it still does this occasionally from 40mph down.

It's ridiculous to keep hearing that nothing is wrong from service people. I have owned 5 RXs through 2015 and never had this problem with the 6 speed transmission. Perhaps going to the Zone Mgr. or the media will get some results.

As I continue to wonder what on earth was wrong with the six speed. 8 speeds really necessary??

Actually, the 5 speed in my 2010 RAV4 V6 is about as good as it gets! Any more than that just seems useless.

The engine and tranny is the same whether it’s f sport or not. Here’s the deal. If you put paddle shifters on a car then you should expect people to shift more. Same goes with the manual sport stick mode. My X3 never had a problem in any gear. My RX - 6-5 downshift I think it might be a mechanical one vs some of the others that might be electronic or vice versa.
