Default Intractable iPhone Problem

2016 RX 350 / Mark Levinson audio / iPhone X.

My iPhone X connects via Bluetooth and plays media and can receive phone calls.

Holding the off-hook button presents the appropriate screen with microphone icon, but the mic icon is grayed out most of the time (works on very rare occasions).

What makes the problem seem intractable is that other iPhones work properly in my Lexus and my iPhone X works properly in my 2018 Prius.

Ideas? Thanks!

Do you have Siri turned on? A long hold on the off hook is supposed to turn on your Siri eyes free.

Yes, Siri was turned on — the iPhone X works with my Prius. BUT your reply prompted me to double check and I discovered that "Allow Siri When Locked" was turned off. That could make a difference. I'll know tomorrow—my wife is out with the Lexus right now—and I'll post sometime tomorrow. Thanks very much for taking time to reply!

Yes! Thank you again. Enabling “Allow Siri When Locked” appears to have solved the problem. As for how that got turned off, only Sreve Jobs knows why Apple devices sometimes change their settings without human intervention.

yes the setting was changed for both of our iphones 6s and 8 with iOS12. Normally that doesn't happen.
