Default Air vent question

Hello,

First time poster, first time Lexus owner -- I have a 2018 RX 350L. I have noticed that if I put the HVAC system into floor vent mode, there is still some air coming out of the upper driver and passenger side air vents -- nothing from the middle. I would be expecting no air to come out of these vents. I asked the dealer service advisor about this and he said that is normal behavior. Never had a car that wouldn't obey your wishes to put air output where you want it. So is this normal behavior for this vehicle?

Thanks!

I discovered the same thing and also found it odd. My solution has been to simply close the vents that I don't want emitting air.

Thanks for the response! I've come to the same conclusion...just close that vent. Annoying, but I will deal with it.

I believe all my Japanese car always exhaust air through the vents close to the door. Several years ago the Japanese car manual stated that floor venting was for heating. Thus, the vents next to doors Blew heated air to heat the cold air next to windows.

Interesting. My previous Subarus didn't do this. I don't even remember the Highlander and Sequoia I rented months ago doing this. Is it just a Lexus thing?

The floor vent also piped air to side vents on Honda, and Acura cars that I have owned in the past. I did not see it on a Suburu I rented, Not seen it in Ford nor GMC rented cars.

Cars today are "smart" they won't let you shut-off those vents as they are necessary to keep your windows defogged. Put it in AUTO and it will select the vents for you depending on the heat. It's amazing how good a job it does! I was skeptical, but had to concede
