It depends if the complementary service is Lexus' or the dealer's. In the 1st case yes.

Default Free service visit

To all Canadians out there. At the complimentary 8,000 km service, do they change the oil or just top it up as required? I know it calls for an oil change at 16,000 km but not sure if the change is every 8k or 16k.

i took it in for the 1,500km inspection but only have 6,500km so far.

As far as I know they do not change the oil at 8,000, they check for leaks and tightness of screws bolts etc, but you can certainly ask them to perform an oil & filter change at that time, I Did.

I recall received free tank of gas on my 1st free 5K service. Now that I am due for the complimentary 10K service, does free tank of gas come with it?

Any gas would be at the dealers discretion and pocketbook, not reimbursed as with the LOF and mechanics check out time.

FYI, I went in for my 5k service and a recall at Lexus of Manhattan.

It appears the "light" 5k service consisted of washer fluid change and some checkout.

As it is Manhattan, I wasn't expecting oil change or gas fillup. The one good thing was it was ready by end of day.

I assume you meant check-and-add washer fluid!

You either have a very kind dealer that fills up or you had a recall performed while your car was in at 5K service. Lexus will fill up your car for the inconvenience of the recall (some dealers require you to ask, while others just do it).

I got a refill at the 5K service, but nothing at the 10K service.

May be it was the special service campaign that requires the reprogramming the ICS ECU when I did the 5k service.

Yep! Service campaigns get the free fill ups too.

Default 5k and 10k Maintenance Timeframe

Does the 5k and 10k courtesy maintenance have to be used in a certain timeframe? I may go pass a year on the 10k mileage.

I think you have 6 mo leeway. Ie 18 mo. to do your 12 month. Double check with your service dealer. But here is one thing to mention i got burned on a little. I did my 1 year at 13 months with 9k miles. My alignment was off they said. And they said i would have had it covered by the new car warranty for 12 months had I had the service before 12 mo was over. And they said they could not cover it now. So bottom line is I had to, (well i could have passed but i didn't), pay for the alignment. Not sure if anything else fits in "the 12 month" portion of the new car warranty. Just mentioning this if it makes any difference to your decision.

Did your car handle differently? Was it pulling or drifting to either side? Any inkling that the alignment was off? At least inspect the tires to see if they were wearing evenly. Otherwise, there's a good chance you were taken advantage of. Any honest dealer would have covered it being that it was only over by one month.

I had them take me on a test drive and the steering wheel was off center when driving straight. its quite likely it wasn't pulling etc but was just off center from center. the guy showed me on a reasonably extensive test drive and i believed it. i dont think there were any shenanigans. very possibly built that way. but just for accuracy i had them fix it. wasn't happy but not the end of the world as far as $$ so i just did it like paying a parking ticket. pay it and try to forget it!
