If I remember correctly you have to go into audio or music in the menu using the joystick, then source, and select "phone". When I plug in a aux it automatically will play music without me doing anything but not if I plug it through the usb port I manually have to go into the "source" and change the input.

no charge when plugged in and the usb section on the menu is greyed out.

Ugh heres a step by step to remove the center console and it doesnt seem fun. Looks like a bunch of broken clips leading to having rattles in the future.

But on this thread the guy says if you pull on it hard enough it just "pops out" lol

Might be worth a try with the 30 dollar replacement on ebay. I would be hesitant just cause what happens if you remove it and when installing the new one it wont connect to the connector and push it off accidently, then you actually do have to remove all the center console crap.

thank you. after looking at the the complexity of moving all that to replace the USB port; it's a hard pass. thank you for the diagram.

If you're feeling a bit risky just try pulling out the dead on in your car atm lol.. seems like theres just two push/tension connectors in the back and no screws. You probably could just slide/push a new one you buy off of ebay.
