Default 2016 Lexus rx450h. Usb stopped working. Dealer not covering

My USB ports stopped working.

I took it in and they said they saw corrosion and something may be spilled.

They are not covering under warranty. They want $680 to fix.

Is there a fuse for dual USB? And whats the part number to replace the USB and is it easy to do??

They also said ac filter needs to be changed. I changed it about 5 months ago and literally takes me 90 seconds to change. They want $160 to install. Lol yes that gave me a chuckle

Are you still covered by the original warranty? If so you should call Lexus raise hell and then go to another dealership.

Have them prove you caused the damage - otherwise, it's a warranty item.

If you did spill something in there, it probably won't be covered. Could it be a simple blown fuse?

Same thing happened to me. I did spill a little water and they said it was "corroded". The write-up even says "swapped and tested". I still haven't fixed mine but the part (86190-0E100) alone is $250 online (cheapest one I've found). There's some on ebay but not sure where those are sourced from.

I'm going to try to pry the USB/AUX port out without removing the center console some time soon. Please do share if you fix and how.

Otherwise... here is how you take apart the center console (page 19)

ALSO--- I found this video and hopefully if prying the port doesn't work... removing just the first step of this video will provide access to it:

Before you go back to the dealership. Buy a can of compressed air and a can of contact cleaner. Also a small brush.

With the compressed air blow out all of the junk that has collected inside the USB ports. Then spray some of the contact cleaner on the end of the small brush. Lightly brush the insides of the ports. Then blow out the ports again. You may need to repeat the process. This will clean the contacts on the ports. And remove any debris from the ports. Which my be stopping the plugs from seating correctly.

The USB/AUX part is pretty easy to pop out/remove. Just use a pry tool or flathead w/ cloth on the bottom (worked on me). The wiring is a little tight so you can't pull it out much. I was I knew how to fix it... I don't "see" any visible corrosion. I can live with the broken component for now...

I've never understood this kind of attitude by dealership service people. Maybe you spilled something and maybe you didn't...it's difficult to prove either way and I doubt Lexus will make the dealership prove the failure wasn't due to a spill. So Lexus will pay the dealership for the repair so it's no skin off the dealer's nose and it goes a long way towards goodwill for the customer.

Said another way, for the price of the USB unit and after already doing the labor (swapping it out to diagnose it was faulty) they just created ill-will, most-likely lost the sale of an extended warranty and potentially lost the future sales/service of a customer because of a small and trivial issue.

Penny-wise and pound-foolish.....
