Questions..We are Trading
Our 2011 RX 350 AWD has spoiled us, but we are ready to trade. Have driven several highly rated AWD's, but they aren't a Lexus. We are going to want adaptive cruise, emergency forward braking and rear cross traffic alert. Don't care for the lane assist and don't need navigation or a glass roof. Probably be looking at 2016 or newer.
Has the Gen 4 left anything to be desired and what year did they start offering the safety stuff as mostly standard?
We could down size, would we be happy with a NX or would we sacrifice ride, comfort and QUIET? I realize we have to drive one to find out, however a 30 minute test drive doesn't tell you what you discover in 30 days. Did I say, we really like the RX.

The RX from 2017-2019 are identical. The only difference with a 2016 is the safety features are an option and became standard on 2017 and up models.

RX requires premium fuel too, Lexus simply lied as less people would purchase the RX if they knew it required premium. The same exact car sold in Australia has recommended octane at least 90. Everyone out there isn’t all hung up on MPG like in America. Most of the people who have the drone and vibration would solve their issue if they tried real premium 93 gas from shell.

I have used 87 octane in our 2015 RX450h and currently 2017 which both premium is required. Experimenting with the other two levels, I have noticed zero difference in gas mileage or performance. I have used 87 in cars that have required premium for over a million miles and have not had one problem.
I always revert back to two MIT graduates that are car mechanics who had a syndicated radio show called Car Talk for 35 years.

From the USA Today:
The only modern engines that should really need premium are those with superchargers, which force-feed fuel into the cylinders. "You're driving along and just tramp the gas and the knock sensor cannot sense the knock fast enough in some cases," because the supercharger boosts pressure so fast, says Bob Furey, chemist and fuels specialist at General Motors.
Burning regular when the owner's manual specifies premium won't void the warranty, nor damage the engine, even the most finicky automakers say. "You're giving up perhaps just a little bit of performance that a customer wouldn't really even notice, it's so slight," says Furey.__________________

Is adaptive cruise control standard on 17+ models? In discription, I see "speed control", but no mention a adaptive cruise control. Am I using the wrong term?
Can the lane assist be turned off permanently or is it a default setting?
Is there blind spot monitoring? I mean an indication when you are being passed on right or left.
Thanks for the previous replys.

I just got a 2016 RX 450h F-Sport CPO that does have all the safety equipment options (it basically has everything but a HUD) and I could not be happier. I was coming from an IS, not another RX, so it's a little hard to say if anything was left to be desired, but I've never been happier with a car. I want for nothing - options or just basic drivability.
We also own a 2015 X5 35i xDrive, also a CPO. I will say this in all fairness - the X5 is the one I'd want to go driving but the RX is the one I'd want to own. It's a different driving experience but for my 50 mile per day commute in rather dense traffic it's the perfect tool for the job. And although the X5 has been issue free so far, I'd bank on Lexus reliability in the long run.
I test drove an NX - I like the RX far and away. Better ride, quiet, smooth, better power.
