Rear suspension noise (merged threads)
#106
Update, I schedule and took my car into Lexus, referencing the Service Bulletin. No questions asked, they took care of it and change both rear trailing arms.
My car did squeak pretty consistently when going over bumps on the driver rear side. .

Mine has this problem and it really bothers me. I learned of the TSB quite late and now my RX is outside of warranty. Anyone here got their dealership to still do it? As courtesy/goodwill? If not, how much am I looking at to get this fixed? Thanks you.

I would have thought that a TSB is free regardless of being in warranty or not. It's a design and/or manufacturing problem so should always be available free.

Unfortunately not, at least not in North America. The TSBs themselves actually list which part of the car's warranty they fall under. I suspect it's done as a way to save money (what isn't these days), but I'm also not aware of any other manufacturer that allows you to get a TSB done outside of warranty?

Update: I called the Lexus dealership and I inquired about the cost of having the TSB done outside of warranty.
Quote:
Parts: $800
Labor: $540
Alignment: $160
The prices quoted are way too high. I checked the parts needed for this TSB and they can be purchased from online parts store (some of them also Lexus dealers) for as low as $380 (total for both sides). Also, the labor quoted is equivalent to about 3 hours of work (TSB only indicates 1.4 hours for this). And then, the alignment is an additional $160. I guess this is how dealerships really make money.
I read some more about this TSB and found out that the Toyota Highlander has the exact same problem and a Toyota TSB was also released (identical to Lexus TSB). The part numbers needed for both TSBs are identical. Some Highlander forum members report that the problem recurred several months after they had the TSB done. Some of them who are also outside of warranty just resorted to applying/spraying lube on the rear trailing arm bushings and that has worked well for them. I took a chance and did the same on my RX and the result was instant. No more squeaks. It was so bad prior to spraying the lube. Now, the suspension is quiet again. What a relief! I know that it will come back after some time but I can always just spray lube on the bushings again.

Squeak from the rear when going over speed bumps
I'm not sure where its coming from exactly but it almost feels like from the right rear strut. At low speeds when going over bigger bumps, like speed bumps, there's a squeak inside the cabin from right rear. I can't really pin point it while driving so wondering if anyone else had something similar.
This is on a '17 FSport

My dealer said thats US only service bulletin and my car "is not affected". They said to come in for an inspection which of course ain't free. Not a big issue so don't think I'll bother.

I’ve had this service done and they replaced the rear trailing arms. I think I heard the squeak coming back. I just lubricated every bushing and moving part in the rear in both sides and it’s quiet again. I’ll just do this once a year or so or as needed.

See in my rx I honestly thought i was going crazy and now I happen to come across this I can say I’m not crazy lol. I just scheduled service for tomorrow at Lexus so they can address it especially while it’s under warranty…

Update!!!
At the dealership now I needed two rear control arms completely covered in being put in a loaner and will be ready for pickup tomorrow… so if you have the same issue and under warranty definitely take care of this issue

Anyone in Canada had this issue looked at by the dealer? I don't get why this service bulletin would only apply to US vehicles since they're all made at the same place in Ontario, Canada no?
