Default Regarding emergency brake light on

My car is 2019 RX 350, today I've experienced the following, the brake is in "hold" position, when my right foot touch the brake, emergency brake light (red) beep, I panic, so I press hard on brake, finally the car stopped. almost hit the front car.

Anyone know what is wrong? thanks.

did you take your parking brake out of auto mode? you may just need to turn it off.

The last part of OP's post seems to indicate that the car was moving and s/he had to jam on the brakes. It sounds like the PCS (Pre Collision Warning system) is behaving as it should.

OP, were you driving along and just about to press on the brakes when the red BRAKE warning message and beep came up? This just means that your car has detected that either the car in front of you, or the one ahead of it has stopped suddenly and there's a possibility of you hitting them if you don't brake right away. That's normal.

The Hold mode for the brakes is just to assist when you are stuck in stop and go traffic, or to prevent a rollback on a hill. Might be a red herring here.

thank you very much.

After I heard beep from emergency brake light system, I press brake myself immediately. however, it seems like the car used PCS system to stop, totally ignore my action, really scary.

Scary, but the car stopped in time, right?

Brake HOLD has nothing to do with the PCS. Brake HOLD selected illuminates the GREEN HOLD light and then will hold your brake (YELLOW light then illuminates) at a stop without your foot on the pedal.

It might be worth looking at the manual for some of the parameters:

■ Brake hold function
● If the brake pedal is left released for a period of about 3 minutes after the system has
started holding the brakes, the parking brake will be set automatically. In this case, a
warning buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display.
● To turn the system off while the system is holding the brakes, firmly depress the brake
pedal and press the switch again.
● The brake hold function may not hold the vehicle when the vehicle is on a steep incline.
In this situation, it may be necessary for the driver to apply the brakes. A warning
buzzer will sound and the multi-information display will inform the driver of this situation.
If a warning message is shown on the multi-information display, read the message
and follow the instructions.
