i would do the transmission fluid change which my dealer charge around 250 for, instead of changing the plugs, unless they are not iridium. Has anyone taken them out to see yet?

Ok, I read the manual and have came to a conclusion that the spark plugs are scheduled to be changed out so Lexus does not have to cover them under the emissions warranty.

On page 24 of the "Warranty and service guide", spark plugs are listed as a covered item but with a * saying it is warrantied until first scheduled service.

so yeah... I'm not changing it out until at least 90k because im not gonna pay for that bs twice... it's not cheap

please if anyone knows a tech who has done this job on a 4rx, try to find out if the car came with denso iridium plugs

Spark plugs are part of the "Consumables" same as your brake pads, they are not part of the emission control system on any car that I know of as there are too many factors that affect their life,

They rip you off like BMW and Mercedes. I never change the plugs until something happens (nothing has ever happened). If you worry that the emission system is going to fail, then get it, but it probably will never fail. It is just a clever way to get you to fork over more money. The brake fluid on the hybrids does not get contaminated, because it does not have a booster like on the non hybrids. It is a completely closed system. The CVT does not ever need a flush.

I guess it's the emissions law... I suggest you read the page I'm referring to because I don't know how else to interpret what Toyota has put in writing. if you want to sell cars in California i guess you have to follow California laws, or go around it by changing it's service interval to render it irrelevant to your bottom line(profit).

Actually, in this case, i think they just don't want to be liable for the spark plugs. Because if any other part emissions part failed, they still have to cover it unless it's broken as a result of you neglecting to change the spark plugs. But please, someone read the page and tell me if i'm wrong.

What difference does it make? The plugs are to be changed at 60 and the emission system is warranted for 80, then after that you are on you own anyway. Why spend 500 on plugs to sustain a warranty for 20000 miles. I don't think it is a wise move. The whole system may never break and the plugs may never need changing.
