There is a bit of history between Elon Musk and George Hotz (creator/software engineer behind Openpilot).

I got a nissan versa as a rental while my UX is in the shop and hated driving it without the comma ai, went to several enterprise locations and found a 2019 corolla to temporarily install my C3 and this little econobox is bearable now with my daily 250 mile commute.
I thought I did a lot of driving... That's a lot of miles on daily basis. I can see why you're sold on C3.

Geohot is a legend in the iPhone jailbreak community as well. He did his enormous deal of iPhone hacking ( being the first in the world to unlock iPhone and such) till he got out of it.

Did not know this... This is really cool. I hate I iphones lol
I just got my car on Tuesday and installed it Wednesday. The stock system is like a elementary kid where the c3 is like a freshman kid entering high school.... Full of enthusiasm and energy that needs some refinement and guidance. It is still in alpha testing and community development after all.

Do you essentially say goodbye to any of your liability coverage if a claim is made against the vehicle outfitted with this system on the policy?

I can't imagine insurance companies knowingly underwriting this add-on unless fully sanctioned by the NHSTA and other govt entities, but I may be wrong. I'm not sure what oem systems (Tesla etc..) and their drivers go through on their coverage or exclusions but interested to hear.

It's pretty complicated and there's no simple answer. Digging through Tesla forums (since their factory driving tech/aid is most widely known to public), looking into insurance and autopilot and/or FSD, I have yet to see any clear cut answers on insurance claims/coverages/cancellations based on liability for the advanced driving technologies. But either way, it's still early in the game, so we will see more government oversight sooner than later, which will most likely be the guideline the insurance industry will follow.
