Ticking Engine Noise
#48
It appears in the US they don't replace the cylinder head sub-assembly, no doubt because it's a massive job to replace. Hence numerous people on here have said the noise is still there after the vacuum pump is replaced. In Australia they were initially replacing only the vacuum pump like the US but soon realised there was more to the noise so updated the TSB to include the cylinder head sub-assembly. OR maybe the US dealers don't want to do the more expensive fix so opt for the pump only replacement.

In Australia they replace the vacuum pump AND the cylinder head sub-assembly which the pump attaches too, all up AUD 5,000 (USD 3,800)

2017 RX Engine Ticking Sound
I have a really nice condition 2017 with only 30,000 miles on it. Always babied and over maintained. Not a scratch on it. I just love it.
My V6 has had a ticking sound when running for awhile now. Not super annoying but still there. To me this engine should run fairly quiet. If you follow the Car Care Nut (a Toyota/Lexus mechanic ) on YouTube, he says that this is an excellent engine.
I would like to start identifying where this ticking is coming from to see if I should be addressing anything. I asked the dealer for their thoughts while last in for service. The said they “couldn’t find anything abnormal”.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Is it loud enough to hear it while inside the car? Or just outside? Has it been since the last oil change? If so, perhaps they used a different oil.
