Default Ticking Engine Noise

Does anyone know what this ticking noise might be? I've had the '17 rx350 for about 1 month and notice this when I start the car up and pop it into drive or reverse. It gets faster as you start driving but then goes away after about a few minutes.

They just replaced the vacuum pump saying that was probably the issue but I would love to get your guys take on it from the video. Hopefully you can hear it over the open door buzzer.

100% positive that is not injector tick(Unless the echo is making it deeper). Sounds more lock a knock and can be an assortment of things. Injector tick sounds like a sowing machine.

Does this only happen on a cold start and goes away?

Did the noise go away with the change in vacuum pump? My wife's '16 CPO sounds exactly like this recently. I'm thinking it's due to cold winter start, but i'm going to have the dealer check it out when she takes it in for an oil change in a couple of weeks.I'm just not familiar with this engine and my gut feeling is this is normal.

Mine does this too, let us know if that fixes it. I heard that noise was the vacuum pump and there is even a TSB for it

Yep looks like there is:

03/12/18
NHTSA ID: 10130010
TSB ID: L-SB-0010-18

Tsb: some 2016 - 2017 model year gs 350 and 2016 - 2018 model year rx 350 vehicles may exhibit a knocking noise from the vacuum pump. follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Default 2019 rx350 fsport popping/knocking noise (possibly other years too)

Hey guys

I have got a 2019 rx350 fsport with about 2700 miles and I noticed at around 4-5 mph the car makes a popping/knocking noise.

This only happens when the car first starts up.

If you drive the car around, put the car in park, don’t shutoff the car, then put the car back in drive it doesn’t make this noise.

I have attached a video

Can anyone with a 2016-2020 rx350 confirm this noise?

I am wondering if it’s year specific, f sport or non fsport specific.

this is NOT the ticking noise the OP is referring to

Im not sure why my separate thread got moved here

This is ONE pop/knocking sound and that’s it.

Thanks in advance

Just wanted to update you all. My wife just got her car serviced and they said the engine ticking is normal. I'm going to send the video you posted to my indy mechanic that i use for my cars and see what he thinks.

Edit: i told her to see if they'll start up a loaner RX for her while she is there to see if the noise is "normal". will report back

Is the sound coming from the front or the rear? If rear, any chance it might be the parking brake "unsticking"? Otherwise it's not something I've heard when I had my '16 350 nor in my current '18 450

I love it when a dealer says a noise is normal. Reminds me of the GMC piston slap noise and the excuses given by dealers. She can also ask, "If it is not making the noise is that "normal"?

Yeah we didn't have time to refute any of this with the service adviser this go around. We also have a very rare, but violent (for a rattle) rattle back near the sunroof (non-pano). Service adviser said this was sunglasses. To be fair, we need to get a video of it next time because it's tough to replicate. Will post back eventually once i contact my mechanic.

Could it be this? Did the sound get better after they replaced the vacuum pump?
Apparently this affects ALL 2016-2018 Lexus RX vehicles, but haven't heard this vacuum pump TSB being talked about much.

Default Cold engine start rattle

Immediately following a cold start the engine was producing this noise:

Dealer identified a service bulletin and replaced the vacuum pump.
The noise is still occurs (around 0:30):

Has anyone had the same problem and if so, were they able to get it fixed?
