Default Gas Cover Door

I have just learned there is no inside switch/button to open the gas cap door in my new RX350. I have never seen this and do not like! (Of course this is not something I was looking for before buying the car) is there anyway to have a button installed or am I

Gas cap door automatically locks when you lock the car.

Are you sure? According to the owner's manual for my 2018, there is a lever under the trim piece on the driver's side of the rear luggage compartment (behind the gas door), that needs to be pulled to release a stuck gas door. (I have never needed it.)

I also was a bit confused about the way the Gas Cap Door opened on the 2018 and not sure I would like it that way. Just remember when putting gas in the car, not to lock the doors as it will also lock the Gas Cap Door. A gentle push on the Gas Cap Door will release it if the car is unlocked. I got used to it that way and it was no big deal after I understood how it worked. My New 2020 Rx 450h now has the Button for the Gas Cap Door back inside the car the way it used to be.

I believe the gas cap button is only included on the hybrid vehicles. Gas vehicles do not have a dedicated button.

I can confirm this. My 2020 RX350 has no gas door button in the driver's compartment; it is locked/unlocked along with the doors. The actual presence of a gas cap was a surprise to me. The last few cars I've had have been capless.

Default Gas Filier Door

My 2020RX has the “pop open” gas filler door. I recently drove a family member’s 2022RX-L and it had a button on the left-of-steering-wheel-area dash that unlocked the gas door. Was this an option the my car just doesn’t have? Or did the standard setup change between 2020 and 2022? Not a big deal at all; just curious.

My 2020 RX450h has the button on the dash. It may be a hybrid thing. I believe it relives pressure then opens the door for you.

Yup! That’s it. The other car was a hybrid and mine is not. Thanks for the explanation.

LOL! I was so annoyed that the gas filler door did not have a lock. After reading here that the gas filler door locks when the door is locked, I had to check this out right away. True enough, it does.

I love that you dont need a lever or button inside to unlock it!
