Default Hot Steering Wheel

On my 2016 RX 450h, I have a wood & leather combo steering wheel. Even with my screen in the windshield, my steering wheel gets so hot in the sun where the wood part is, that I can’t touch it. It takes a solid 10 minutes of A/C blowing on it before I can safely touch the wood part. The leather part is largely unaffected & the only thing I can grip onto until the A/C cools everything down. Does anyone else have this? Does anyone make a nice leather wrap for this steering wheel?

Don't know about a wrap, but I have the same issue with the top of the dash. I have been thinking about a clear tint for the front and side windows. As I understand, the clear tint can block out most of the heat. No sure how much I would like the tint at other times of the year.

My side windows are ceramic tint (lots of heat rejection & not real dark), but the heat comes from the sun beating down through the top of the windshield. The sun in this part of Texas is intense in the summer. The damn thing even gets hot while driving into the sun! I wish the heated part of the wheel worked this well in the winter!

$83 for a freak’n sun shade?! I already have a sun shade. That’s not the problem. The problem is the immense temperature EVERYTHING inside car the gets up too. It’s easily 100-105 everyday. Anything in the condole that’s metal is also way more than 105 degrees. The problem is the wood material absorbs the heat & just gets far too hot to touch. The leather is tolerable.

So, is there another steering wheel that can be substantiated? Leather is much better insulation than dark wood & plastic. My car is red, so it’s not light & it’s not dark. My seats are chocolate brown & they are very tolerable.

Wow, still hot with a sun shade. I've purchased steering wheel covers from Amazon a few times for my other cars, but not for the same reason. I kept returning the ones I didn't like until I found one that worked for me.
If you decide to go this route search for your RX model if not you'll have about 1000 to choose from.

I found his company, located on Long Island, NY, that sells the Wheelskins to fit Lexus. The problem is the Wheelskin goes over the existing leather on the sides, where I don’t need it...

https://www.shopsar.com/lexus-rx-lea...ws-lexusrx.htm

Anyone use these folks for any aftermarket trim?

Looks like you can get also only top & bottom so the sides won't be affected.

Where? I didn’t see that choice, but maybe I missed it. They also offer the tu-tone, is that what you saw?

Yes they offer a choice of colours top & Bottom and sides. I don't see why you could not order or use only the tp & bottom.

They aren’t separate pieces - it’s all sewn together.

The way it was presented one could infer that they were separate pieces.
Could you not get the whole unit and cut off the pieces?

Man Iwish you were in Jersey. I also have the chocolate interior and that’s the one thing I wish I had. Mine came with the all leather steering wheel. My ES had the wood and I miss that smooth wood feeling, so nice!
