When I got my 2017 Rx450h, I measured the outputs on the USB ports under the armrest and under the radio, they provided 5V at 1A.

Yep, I got the same thing, and plug it in under the armrest. I just leave enough of the end of my charger cord out to reach the phone when stuffed in the empty spot under the radio and climate controls. The armrest can close on the cord with no issues.

I have something like this for the cigarette lighter, but I thought that using a USB would draw less power from the battery.
Thanks for the reply!

Not really "less", just "slower". The same total current draw is needed to charge the phone battery to the same level.

All of the charge points should draw the same amount of current since it’s the device that determines the draw.

The only thing that I miss from my explorer is it had a rapid charge USB port in the front. The RX uses the same slow USB ports everywhere. I use the usb in the center console the cable won’t snag under the lid since it has enough wiggle room you won’t short the cable out. In the back I use one of the cigarette lighter to dual USB adapters for the kids iPads.

I had a loaner 2020 RX and they replaced the cigarette lighter outlet for USB ports which is cool. The best part was the cell phone pocket they now give you next to the shifter! What would be really cool would be if they fitted a wireless charger into that pocket though.
