I had a rattle in my 2016 RX450h that I swore was coming from the center console, behind the shift lever. It seemed to occur most often when turning. I took a tech for a ride, and of course, we had a hard time duplicating the rattle.

When I got the car back after servicing, they had found the rattle to be my sun glasses in the overhead eyeglass storage bin. So I put a bit of anti-skid foam under my glasses, and no more rattle.

You are absolutely correct that the source of rattles is not always from where you think they are originating.

My trim around my nav screen rattles a little from time to time. May its that as well? Go to dealer if your under warranty.

If it's the trim around your nav screen, push down on the trim when you hear it rattle. If it stops, then it's the trim.
