I'm sure the quality of Lexus body work varies a lot between dealers. Personally, I consider shops that specialize in auto body work to be a cut above auto dealers, for that kind of work.

I had a shelf fall on my car in the garage and selected from the list of shops the Insurance company provided. Fortunately, one of the choices was the dealer's collision division. I just paid the deductible and didn't worry about it. I made sure they re-applied the clear coat all is good.

Used to be Lexus had certified body shops. Don’t know if they still do. I used one because I lease my RX’s and was afraid of being charged on lease turn in for poor body work.

Default Headliner Removal

Hi guys - so my parking garage lifted my car and crushed the sharkfin antenna against the roof of the parking garage. Dealer wants $1650 to install $400 worth of parts (the antenna and antenna cover). $1,250 is for the labor to remove the headliner. Does anyone have instructions or experience removing the headliner? I'm wondering if I can remove it myself. Once I do that, it's a matter of just unscrewing a bolt, removing the remnants of the old antenna and screwing the new one in. I'm just not sure how hard or easy or safe it is for me to remove the headliner myself.

Thanks

My experience with attempting headliner repair on other vehicles: it’s not easy at all. They aren’t very robust, they tear and separate and crack. If you have the money, I would recommend having the dealer do it. Otherwise the end result probably won’t be pretty.

Why not check with a local body shop or two?

I broke mine twice. Dealer repair was $1200.

Headliner replacements are routine for auto upholstery shops. I took my wife's old Saturn for one and it cost $130 for a new headliner. An RX of course will cost more but it would be worth making a few phone calls. Just google "auto upholstery" and you will see lot's of options.

Yes, I should’ve used the words “an expert” instead of “the dealer”, certainly auto upholstery shops should be able to handle it and a lower cost. My (poorly communicated) point was that my experience showed that it wasn’t easy for me to do since I don’t have either the expertise or the tools to do headliners properly, and the end results for me were quite disappointing.

auto upholstery trim shops will do headliners and probably install the part also. I had my Honda ridgeline headliner replaced, and it cost me $780.
Your comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance will probably cover this.

My satellite antenna got crushed by a garage. Apparently that satellite antenna also doubles as the enform cell antenna. Does anyone know if you can get an antenna from, say, a 2019rx and install it on a 2017rx for an upgrade to 4g? The cost of the antenna is something like $350 so that may bet the answer to getting an upgrade....
