Hope Lexus realises they have an issue with their panoramic sunshades.
If enough complains are filed with NTSB maybe they will force a fix.

The sad thing is that they will probably fix this issue with newer models because those roofs are still in some of their packages.

Not a Lexus tech but I cannot image the cost to replace the pano shade is that much for part itself to replace/repair but probably the cost of dropping the entire headliner to do it is where the cost comes in. last I remember when I dropped my headliner to do starlights its just a roll up shade driven by 2 motors. I didnt look at it too much since mine is not malfunctioning. Here's a pic of what the unit looks like. sorry its the only pic I have of the bare roof. Its something I would think a person can do if you are willing to drop the headliner to do it.

You're probably correct about Lexus out-sourcing this. My dad owned a trim shop that did warranty work for car dealers and classic car guys. They did headliners with sunroofs etc, and very seldom would have to replace the whole unit unless the car was in an accident and insurance paid for that. It was mostly motors, shades, and rubber gasket trim for leaks. This was before the pano roofs but same concept.
