[QUOTE=mikemu30;11156646]Your original battery didn't last long. We still have the OEM in our 2017 RX /QUOTE]
Same here, but mine is going as strong as ever, no deposits whatsoever on any of the 2 posts, admittedly I check the water level twice a year, late fall and spring and also use a smart charger at those times to desulfate and recharge the battery, an operation that takes 14 hrs on my vehicle.

I didn't know there was a water level that required checking in these batteries

I have an AC-Delco AMG battery in my Chevy SS that's 6yrs old and never had a problem with it. Now, a couple of things about these batteries I noticed and read on other forums. First, they don't like heat, mine is located in the trunk with a vent tube by design. The second thing it takes a while to fully charge. So, your 10-mile trip & short commutes a couple of days a week won't be enough to get that first full charge. I've read that people charge these batteries before installing them. So far, my 2015 Chevy OEM battery showing no signs of weakness on load test. I may replace it sometime next year anyway to be on the safe side.

[QUOTE=mikemu30;11156687]When you look at the battery you'll see 2 caps, each cap covers 3 holes, shine a light inside and there ought to be enough water (distilled) to cover the cells, if not add some.

Sadly, none of the maintenance-free batteries are truly maintenance-free. They all lose water over time. Every six months I pull the caps which are removable and add distilled water to the bottom of the fill cylinder. This maintenance, along with periodic desulfation, will allow $99 name brand lead-acid batteries to easily last 6-8 years. I buy Interstate Group 24 wet batteries for that price at Costco for my 2018 RX with 700 CCA. At current price points, I do not need to buy $250 and up AGM batteries.

The battery in our RX is roughly five years old and I've NEVER added a drop of water to any cell. I suppose I should look but I think I'll have it replaced anyway even though no signs of it weakening yet.

[QUOTE=BensonTT;11184646]This type of battery is very rare. I have not seen one in 50 years. An AGM battery is about as maintenance free as you can get. They don't leak so there is no acid "mist" collecting on the battery terminals. My wife's car had an AGM which I replaced after it was 7 years old. It was still clean after never touching it. No cleaning no adding water no nothing. Expensive? Yes, but a good battery is crucial to the reliability of your car. If you choose a cheaper and more conventional battery, there are ways to protect the terminals. They sell spray chemicals that will coat the bare cable ends and terminal posts from corrosion.

Is that what comes oem in Lexus? The maintenance guide in the manual says nothing about adding water to the battery periodically.

The maintenance guide will say nothing about the battery because it is "maintenance free" . Just a selling point. They don't sell cars anymore with batteries you have to add water to. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.
