Default Spark Plugs

How necessary is this? It appears it voids warranty if you don’t.

EVERY 6 YEARS / 60,000 MILES

  • Replace Spark Plugs (required for Emission Control Warranty)
  • Inspect Drive Belts (after first inspection, inspect every 1.5 years / 15,000 miles thereafter)

I just hit the 60k mark, and Lexus quoted me $1,300.00 to change out sparkplugs on my 2017 RX450h.
I think i'm going to try to do it myself.

Previous generation RX which I had one had you changing the spark plugs at 120,000 mi. I don't know why this generation is saying 60,000. I have 90,000 on mine. I could have cared less if the emissions warranty had expired. Having said that if I keep this car I'm going to do it.$ $1,300 I was quoted $1100 which I think is ridiculous since the parts are $120. I looked at a YouTube clip on changing it. Looked way too complicated for me.

Yes. Pls update with Toyota quote. Look around for a shop that specializes in Toyotas. My brother in law has a shop like that in Bothell WA and they are really good.

I replaced mine myself. It's a 2-3 hour job as Hobby without break.

I guess dealers charge 3-4 hours at $200/hr.

They have to pay the mechanic, their overhead plus the greedy owners.

Exactly the overheads are enormous. And someone has to pay for the multi-million $ renovations they do every few years. Bottom line, go to dealer for service and be prepared to pay through the nose. Nice you can do it yourself. I imagine the rear bank are not easy to get to?

Did they list how many hours of labor?

I'm at 78K on my 2016. I'll have my independent mechanic do it. He works on every make/model...BMW, Mercedes, Ford,Nissan I saw him working on a Saab last week. A Toyota 6 cylinder is everyday work for him. I always pay him cash. He always takes care of me. I stopped going to the dealership years ago.
I'll see how it runs and maybe do it at 100k.

So my local Toyota dealer just gave me a quote for $525 to change the plugs on a 2019 RX350 ....I told them I had the plugs....

EDIT....Just re-read the email...I sent to my contact at Toyota and he sent it to their Lexus service...

The $525 is from the Lexus dealer...not Toyota. Sorry for the confusion...

I watched the video on changing plugs in a 2016-2020 RX350, and it's ridiculous on what has to be removed to access the rear 3.

The 2020 is not too bad. I think that the earlier years required more disassembly including the wiper cowl. I did not have to remove cowl on my 2020.

It took me about 2 hours total including throttle body and PCV cleaning. Total cost for me was around $120 for plugs and two gaskets.

A few questions for you: Did you buy the OEM plugs or something else? Did you follow the Car Care Nut's video for the 2GR-FKS? Did you use a topside creeper for reach, or have to put your knees on the framing by the radiator?

I'm still trying make peace with doing this work at 60K miles, since I live in a state that does not have emissions testing. Hard to believe the plugs are actually worn/burned at 60K.
