Default Why turn off wireless car charger?

Why would someone opt to shut this off?

The only reason that I can think of is that they don't have a "qi" capable phone, and they just want to use the space as a shelf...

I shut it off because it's a waste of good usable space -- which is lacking in the RX console area -- and there are other perfectly good options for charging the phone with a cord. I also find it cumbersome and difficult to reach into the recessed area behind the shift ****. It happened to be installed on the car I purchased, but I wish it wasn't there.

I am curious, can that be retrofitted? I have 2020 and would love to have a wireless charger. I just hate to stub my phone with a cable))

If you want to store something metal in that space, it should be turned off.

In my experience, most of the Toyota and Lexus vehicle harnesses are pre-equipped with the connectors needed to install these optional accessories.

I shut mine off because I never use it. Plugging in charges faster and has the added benefit of enabling Carplay/Android Auto.

i tried it on my test drive but it didnt charge my phone. Seems like if you have a thick case (otterbox) it doesnt charge.

You need to have the latest case made out of a special material to use this feature and this material is fragile, so likely more repairs.

it might be the case. Just changed my case to bullstrap iPhone 12 Pro Max case and had no issues v. my other case with metal plate located on the back had major charging issues.

I wondered the. same thing. I'm just guessing, but it's probably a safety requirement to have all accessories switched in some way. I can't think of anything offhand, electrical, that's not switched. Ray A.
