Do it on a warm day when plastic is warm. I used a regular plastic dash disassembly spatula. It is very easy. You will not break any connection points if you pry it out approximately where I indicated! Good Luck!

 

I just had this fixed on mine at a recent service. Since it is still on warranty, I too was worried about scratching the dash. My dealer is only about six miles away so it was an easy choice. It only took them a few minutes. I suspect they see that issue often on the RX.

 

So for all of you the fix was from the lower part of the dash, for me it sounds that it's coming from underneath the steering wheel!
