A Sad Story About the Head-up Display HUD on 2017 RX350
#31
Sounds like some incompetent fool was at Lexus customer support. It is the time and the mileage as when the problem occurred.
Yes, I had an extended warranty on my RX and it paid for itself 3x over.

Have you checked that the issue is not with the transparent cover of the HUD and not the HUD itself. It looks like something is covering the HUD display or the HUD display itself is damaged, like burned in.
My experience with warranty claims has been poor. I had complained of a loud noise with brake actuator issue for a couple of years, but Lexus could not reproduce it.This is a known TSB. Then just before my warranty expired, I decided to take it in, have some recalls applied, and try to get brake actuator repaired since it was getting worse. Since COVID was rampant, I waited until the parts arrived to get it all serviced. Well, the parts were not ordered the first time I went, so I had to wait a couple of more months. Parts arrive two weeks after sale date (not date of delivery). They reproduce the actuator problem. but would not cover it since the warranty had expired. After several calls to Lexus corporate, Lexus corporate would only cover the parts, but not the labor. Basically half the cost. Note that this was in the middle of last year big COVID surge and I was trying to minimize exposure with family members who were at high risk in our house. After several calls with dealer and Lexus corporate, the dealer agreed to cover half of the labor. I had incorrectly assumed since I had reported the issue several times, it was documented before warranty expired, and was just inside the 4 years since I got the car delivered, that it would not be an issue. But the warranty starts ticking at the sales date even when you do not have a car in hand ad Lexus is quite strict with it.

I ended up paying close to $300 of the $2000 initially quoted to replace Brake Actuator and Master Cylinder Reservoir according to TSB. It was about $1300 for parts and $700 for labor.

I sleep better at night. Knowing if my car doesn't start in the morning. Its only going to cost me a phone call, an hour waiting to get a tow truck and then pick up my loaner.
