Using Bluetooth after unplugging from CarPlay
Scenario: I travel a decent amount to see my clients and use CarPlay occasionally for apple/google maps and charge the phone while at it. Sometimes I’m simply charging the phone and don’t need map guidance. I’ll make a stop at a client’s house or some other stop, unplug my phone to take w/ me inside. Upon returning to the car I won’t plug the phone in if not needing map guidance or if the phone is charged. However, it seems to resume my podcasts or music I have to go into the menu to reconnect via bluetooth. Am I doing something wrong in that I always have to go to the menu and reconnect via bluetooth after unplugging my phone from CarPlay?
if what I’ve typed seems unclear and rushed, it is rushed. I can try to give more detail in a bit.

Sounds normal to me.
You have several audio sources, Carplay, AM, FM, Satellite, Bluetooth. etc.
You were using Carplay and when you returned to the vehicle, Carplay was not available because you did not plug in the phone. The car needs you to select an audio source (bluetooth).
By contrast, if you listen via Bluetooth while in the vehicle, leave, and come back later, the phone will auto-connect to bluetooth, and the music will automatically play via the Bluetooth channel, but that is only because an available source remained available during last use, and at the time of re-connection.
Even though you are attempting to play music/podcasts from the same device (phone) via both bluetooth and Carplay, your car see these as two separate sources and is not intelligent enough to auto switch between them.
