Default Gen 3 rides more plush than Gen 4

Thinking of retiring my Gen 2 RX, I test drove a Gen 3 and Gen 4 and found the 2020 car ride much firmer and not as soft or plush as even my 15 year old car. The Gen 3 (2015) was more plush and soaked up the small bumps like jell-O. I guess ride and handling are really 2 opposite ends of the spectrum and I'm leaning toward the ride. Anyone feel the same?

I would drive the 400h until the wheels fall off. Great vehicle a family member has the Toyota version it's a fantastic car. I can't think of anything bad to say about it except maybe it's too small for some people. More sporty aka harsher ride is an industry trend unfortunately.

IMHO, I disagree. Having owned Gen 2, Gen 3 and now Gen 4, there are sooo many differences between them it's not even close. If the ride is firm on the gen 4, are you driving an FSport with the handling package? If so, it may be in one of the sport modes. I drive mine in eco mode mostly and the ride is much better than the gen 3 we had. Drove in heavy traffic lately in sport mode, to keep the shift points more in line with requirements in that situation. Can't do that in the other generations. Ride was firm but fine for me. it's personal preference.

Different size tires/wheels can make a difference.

I completely agree. I have also owned all three generations and the ride has a strong relationship to the tire/wheel combo. That said, the 2004 we owned had the best ride of the RX’s I have owned, but the options and safety features have come a long way from that 2004 vehicle. I would never go back, even if it did have a slightly more luxurious ride.

I also upgraded from a 2006 RX400h, and the improvement with the 2019 RX450h is many levels above IMO. I have an Fsport but typically drive conservatively in ECO mode, and get better mileage than the 400h (about 4-5 mpg better). There's no comparison in ride quality - the 2019 beats the snot out of the 2006, which I thought was just fine before I upgraded.

The main reason I upgraded from the 2006 was it was well out of warranty (though trouble-free) and about to need some $$ invested (timing belt + new tires). I found a great deal on the 2019 with low miles, L-certified warranty thru Sept 2025 (which I extended to Sept 2030) and the exact color combo and options that I wanted. So I sold some PLUG calls in early Feb when the stock price was still high and never looked back...
