Maintenance Required Light on 3000 Miles After Reset?
Mates:
My 2017 RX was serviced at 31K miles, and I reset the maintenance light via dash board car settings. After resent it says I have 8000 miles to go before another maintenance required.
Now at 35K and the light came back on. Just 3~4K miles driven, and service again? Full Synthetic oil definitely lasts longer than that I think?
Service manual calls for 1year/10K oil change interval. So the maintenance light is there for decoration purpose, I guess?
You guys ever got confused by that?

The oil life monitor supposedly receives a multitude of inputs (time, mileage, engine load, temperature, etc.) to calculate when it's time for a change. Unless you drive under severe conditions, just change it according to time or mileage whichever comes first. The one in my Mustang is supposed to do the same, but it comes on every 12 months regardless of mileage. Last year, I drove only 1,500 miles.

My 2020 owner's manual specifies ILSAC GF-5 oil with a recommended viscosity of 0W-20. 0W-20 is available as a synthetic blend and full synthetic. Based on the owner's manual, I don't think full synthetic is required. Every reference I can find for Toyota Genuine Motor Oil just says "synthetic." It is not clear to me if it is a blend or not.
The GF-5 spec is over 10 years old. You didn't ask, but I run GF-6A full synthetic oil in my RX.
