Default How to prevent mice from entering my engine bay

So with the new LC in the garage, im left with parking the RX350 on the drive way. We had some ants recently and i put a few of these ant traps down. Couple of days later, i saw that all the ant traps were missing... low and behold the mice pulled them up onto the engine cover and started eating the ant / ant traps.

How do i stop these little guys from using my engine bay as a nest!??! thank god so far they havent chewed into the wires.

Rats hate the smell of peppermint oil so place a few drops on cotton ***** and place them in the engine bay.

Engine bay is bad. Cabin air filter mouse nest is worse. Use peppermint oil. Try grated Irish Spring bar soap. Put mouse traps around. You don't want these critters in your car.

Peppermint oil works pretty well:

Also place these peppermint packets under the car where you park:

You will have a nice minty smell.

A mouse will not be repelled by peppermint oil or any other scent. That's simply a fallacy. They will not voluntarily leave their home for any reason. I have unfortunately a great deal of experience with these pests on my farm and I can tell you what does work - bait, traps and cats. And steel wool if that's feasible as a barrier.

I am no expert on rodent control, but I have managed to keep mice out of my garage stored corvettes. First keep your vehicle clean and free of foods and drinks. Don't attract them. That is, no food items stored in the vehicle including that one little French fry laying under your seat. I then place two bars of Irish Spring soap in the vehicle. One gets placed near the front and one in the back of the cabin. I also place sticky traps on the garage floor near the doors. Perhaps I've been lucky, but no evidence of mice or damage by mice in the vettes. Keeping mice out of vehicles stored outside can be much more difficult. Good luck with that.

Traps around the parameter baited with peanut butter. Every fall after the first couple of cold nights I will get them in my crawl space. I will catch each season about four to five and then no more.

There are a few mice in my garden. They particularly like strawberries and young broccoli flowers.

I find that trapping them with peanut butter bait seems to be the best measure, even though that is still hit and miss. With 4 traps around the strawberry bed, I catch 1 or 2 mice a week. But many times the strawberries right next to the traps just 'disappeared'.

Pepper mint oil does not work at all.
