I can't comment on Apple Maps. I've never used it. Google Maps may have changed over the years but it was not possible to download maps in the early days. Last time I checked, it is already possible to download but the area to download is limited. With Here WeGo, you can download the whole country map if you like. Yes, it uses a fair bit of phone storage. Having said, data is cheap nowadays that people don't bother going off-line mode. I think the app is good for going offline mode from my perspective. Not trying to sell this app ... just saw few comments on the about not wanting to pay subscription and waze has ads, etc., therefore thought of mentioning this app that I have been using over the years.

Lexus Australia stripped out a lot of the drive connect functions that you guys get in North America that I don't see any value subscribing at all!! Have anyone tried the "Here WeGo" app? I have been using this app since the first Android phone came out, I think. I've never had to pay subscription... I may have paid a one off charge. It's been so many years ago, I can't remember. Everytime I visit another country, I download the map that I need and go-offline so I don't rely on data. This works perfectly on Android Auto. I have not thoroughly tried in carplay but seems to work with my wife's iphone. I think it's a good alternative.
