Front Dash Cam Recommendations - Do You have One You Recommend?

I have a Fitcamx installed on my 2019 NX (https://fitcamx.com/products/fitcamx...40985590300844), installed it myself in August 2022. Recently the unit stopped working and would not turn on no matter what I do. While the company is very generous in offering a replacement unit, their response made me think this can be a common problem and I fear the replacement unit will die on me in few months just like this first one and outside of warranty period.
Me: Hello, I followed the instructions and it didn't work. Maybe I wasn't clear enough before, the dashcam doesn't power on anymore no matter what I try. I have attached a picture of the dashcam. When it was working prior to 3/14/23, the lights would turn red when the dashcam was working but after 3/14/23 the light never turned on again. Please advise what I can try next, thank you!
Fitcamx: Hello, I see what you mean now. If it still won't turn on, a new replacement will fix the problem. Can you please tell me the address? We will send you a new replacement. thanks!"

The auto makers need to start including these from the factory. We already have cameras everywhere, just a matter of adding some additional hardware so we would not have to have the cameras hanging off of stuff in our vehicles. They already have a black box that is recording how you are driving, how about a video record we can access.

I was the one that originally posted this thread about dash cam recommendations. This thread has been active for a few weeks and wondering if anyone has had a Lexus OEM dash cam installed and what your thoughts were including total pricing.
I've spoken to several Lexus dealers and they've had price quotes all over the place including for different parts that seemed way out of line that you need to purchase such as what when dealer calls the SD card "holder" which seemed very expensive.
I've also had very prices from different dealers on the labor cost to install the OEM dash cam with a couple dealers asking for 2 hours of labor, and others asking 4 to 5 hours as they say they've never done one before.
This labor rate also seems very strange as when you look at the product or hear other people talking about it it seems that it's just a snap in after they remove a cover next to the rear view mirror and there's not a lot of wiring they have to redo.
I've also read other forms about the Lexus OEM dash cam and many have stated they weren't happy with the resolution of 1080p compared to other cams like the fit Cam being 4K. The Lexus om cam also appears to have a low memory limitation of 126 and does not allow for installation of larger memory cards - is that true?
Hoping a new Lexus owner who had one installed can share their thoughts.

Most of these dash cams do have a limited SD card size limitation.

Just got the Lexus Integrated Dash cam installed by Lexus dealer on my RX350h.
First the Minuses and not all of these are true misuses but just limitations that you have to decide if you are ok with
1. Price I paid $ 267.75 for the camera PT949-76200, Originally parts guy said $382.00, I saw on a web site a retail price of $315.00 so I was happy with that. Wire harness PT949-48210 $34.00
Total hardware: $301.75 Labor $180.00 orig $234.00 but told them I was quoted $180.00 so they reduced it. Overall I'm ok with what I paid
Total price for hardware and labor including tax: $499.86
2. Resolution is only 4080P not 4k It produces a clear wide picture, just can't read fine detail like a license plate clearly.
3. only front camera, no rear facing image.
4. phone app ok but easier to view in computer with micro SD card use app for settings, then go to computer.
Pluses:
1.Looks great in car, no wires, very clean installation.
2. Lexus quality, looks like it will last.
3.Lexus warranty 12 months if installed by dealer.
4.Easy to use.

Hi - I had the Lexus OEM dashcam installed on my '23 RX350h last week. I was the 1st car that the dealership did an install on. They asked if they could video it and post on social media.
The dashcam retails at $315 and there is a harness for $34 - they did not know about this so did not charge me for it.
Quoted $169 for install. Later told it should have been more since a more involved install ??
I used the Costco 50% off parts/accessories coupon I got from Costco since is went through them.
So $172 for camera plus $169 plus tax - $370 out the door. I don't think it took them that long.
- They installed on the right side of the rearview camera - I questioned why and they said it could not go on the left due to some sensor or heating element on the left side. It is not in the way and don't see it unless I lean over, but easy to reach if I need to press any buttons.
- So far happy with functioning. It's not 4k but does the job and looks professionally installed.
- Has a 16gb industrial grade memory card which works and it just re-writes over older files. You can up grade it up to 128GB if you want. Easy to pull out and replace.
- Wish it had a rearview camera.
- Takes 2 trials to connect to it using iPhone and long to download files/clips. Faster to pull out the card and transfer to computer if you really need a clip.
- Overall very happy with it and was a great deal using the Costco coupon. If any of you use Costco don't forget about it. You have to do a post purchase survey they send to get that coupon.

1080p, not 4080p.
So basically one hour of dealer labor, which is fair.
What costco coupon?

Even with no witnesses, accident causes and faults can be determined by any trained accident investigator. Think of these guys as the "CSI" of accident investigations. They use a variety of forensics to make virtually irrefutable determinations. Unfortunately, most PDs don't have enough trained investigators. The ones they have are committed to accidents with fatalities, not routine accidents. As you noted, a dash cam isn't a bad idea.

If you buy your RX through the Costco Auto Program they will send you a coupon for 50% off parts and accessories from the dealer you purchased from after you complete the purchase.

If you get another micro sd card either get the EOM (like $90-$100) for a 16GB and make sure it says industrial grade which allows it to tolerate a greater temperature range and is heavy duty. Do not us anything above 16GB. amazon has a Sandisk industrial for about $13.00 in 16GB
MicroSD card provided with the Integrated Dashcam is industrial grade with
longer life compared to other commercially available microSD cards. The
Integrated Dashcam may not operate properly if another type of microSD card
is used.
• Do not save data other than that recorded by this Integrated Dashcam to the
microSD card. Otherwise, videos may not be recorded properly.
MicroSD CARD FIRMWARE UPDATE
1. Insert your MicroSD card (lower than 32GB) into a card reader/adaptor and
connect to your PC. use a 16GB card

For anyone that has the Lexus integrated dash cam and is using it: I can view the images just by putting the micro sd card in my computer but the manual said " PC Companion Tool Available for Windows and Mac PCs, the companion tool lets you review detailed GPS and G-force information alongside your video." I tied to get this but could not get it to download. Not sure this is any different from what I see now. Has anyone downloaded this tool and if so how did you do that?

Oh. Never had any luck with the costco auto buying program, dealers never provided pricing and just said "come into the dealership", and it was no different than walking in off the street to negotiate to buy a car.

If anyone needs an extra needs an extra micro sd card for the Lexus integrated dash cam I'll put a link below. The EOM one is non-branded and is around $100.00 or more. You have to make sure it's rated for industrial use and is not larger than 16GB. They will handle the temperature extremes inside a car. The one I found was around $10.00 plus shipping. Amazon also has them but someone made a comment that the one they got wasn't from an authorized seller of Sandisk and so they were told to return it. I have not found anyone that is Sandisk authorized that stocks it. It works great.
