A side note, one quick benefit of the beeping when you have your iPhone with the digital key enabled.
I left my phone in my car by mistake and when I got out to lock the doors by touching the handle (fob in my pocket), the car would not lock. Scratching my head I tried a few more times and no go. I then used the fob and the car locked. Hum.
Baffled by this conundrum, I thought what could be wrong? At the same time, I realized I left my phone in the car so unlocked with fob and grabbed the phone. I then tried locking by touching the door handle again and the car locked with no issues.
So it appears the car is smart enough to know if you leave the phone in the car with digital key enabled, it assumes that is your only way to access the vehicle and engages a security feature so you don't lock yourself out even with a fob in your pocket.
Another interesting point, is even though I have the digital key enabled on my phone, the app was closed/shut down. So that begs the question, is my hypothesis correct, or is it simply the bluetooth connection on the phone doing the working regardless if the digital key is enabled? I have not tested that yet. However, I do on occasion forget my phone so this is a nice feature regardless.
I don't have a digital key. Closing the app does not necessarily mean it has stopped...the app probably is still running in the background. Try to "force stop" the app/process. Refer to this also What is Digital Key? (lexus.com)

As stated I shutdown the app. Killed it, Easy way to tell is the blue icon is not in the upper left corner of the phone. I learned not to leave it running as it drains the battery.
But my post was not about needing a basic iPhone usage lesson, it’s about the car detecting the phone inside when locking.
