Yes, that too is anecdotal. There is more than just the drain intervals in play. Oil testing with Blackstone can also tell you where your oil is at when you change it. Do 5K if it gives you peace of mind, I do. But the manufacture's recommendation will be fine.

Go out on YouTube and look for a guy that has a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Original owner changes his oil every 10,000 mi and has 1.6 million miles on it

If you don't keep your cars past 150K you'll never know the damage you have done and will be passing the problem off to the next guy.
Unless you only drive highway and under specific operating conditions, you won't qualify for the 10K mile OCI and people don't realize this.
If you don't understand how the low tension rings operate, and why they get gummed up, you have no business telling people they'll be fine with these extended drain intervals.

When a Toyota technician shows me a torn apart block with the pistons removed and scoring due to bunged up rings as a result of 10K miles OCIs that is enough evidence for me - 2GRFE in a Lexus ES350.
If you don't keep your cars past 150K you'll never know the damage you have done and will be passing the problem off to the next guy.
Unless you only drive highway and under specific operating conditions, you won't qualify for the 10K mile OCI and people don't realize this.
