Just read that Mobil now has a synthetic hybrid oil.

‘’Next will be oil for specific vehicle colors.
‘’Todays oil is such overkill and we could get buy with the plain old Dino 🦕 but the synthetics are so much better.
‘’I have zero time to worry about it as Lexus will be doing the oil changes and Maint for me. I used to do it but just have no desire to do so anymore. More power to those who do!

FWIW, my Honda dealer has told me to keep the factory fill oil in until the first oil change interval or Maintenance Minder indication. He said the Honda factory fill oil contains additional additives to facilitate complete break-in of the moving parts. Given how the engines have performed ver the long haul, his advice certainly didn't hurt.

I too in past new car purchases, going back to my 1973 Alfa Spider (which I still own BTW), changed the factory fill oil @ 500 miles and then shifted them to Mobil One synthetic oil @ 3,000 miles (except the Alfa since synthetic oil wasn't really around in 1973). The conventional wisdom then was that synthetic oil was too "slippery" to allow a new engine to properly break-in. I'm not real comfortable in letting the factory fill oil stay in the crankcase until 10,000 miles so I plan to have it changed at the free scheduled 5,000 mile service. I expect I'll have to pay for the early oil change. It's probably not needed but I plan to do it. I don't think it can hurt.

Planning on doing the same thing. I want Mobil 1 in as soon as possible. Don't know what they use at the factory.

First off engine oil is cheap compared to an engine. Your at 2k already and pasted the breakin. When I did my oil change(4/23/23) it was dark brown and I could see it’s color was like a yellow flake paint job. I was surprised to see this because I drove carefully for those 1000 miles. Also I changed the oil filter as well as the oil. I would never change the oil without putting a new oil filter. Change the oil every 6 to 8 months or when your near 5k miles. The YouTuber THR CAR CAR NUT even said to never run your engine oil near 10k or your engine will burn oil. Watch this.

Totally agree. If you watch the video he explains the manual says change every 5k if have extreme conditions eg lots of short trips. Also if you drive very little it may take you a long time to reach the 10k or even 5k. Do it after 1k, then every 5k or 6 months what every comes first.

At near 1500 miles on my 350h the oil is still so clear that it is hard to see on the dip stick. Something is wrong if it is like Thanos claims!

The manual says:
These special operating
conditions, which put added
demands on a vehicle, include:
• Driving on dirt roads or on
dusty roads
• Repeated trips of less than
five miles in temperatures
below 32° F or 0° C
• Extensive idling and/or
low-speed driving for long
distances, such as police, taxi
or door-to-door delivery use

Apologies for naive question - when you do oil change at 1k at Lexus ( and pay for it) do you forego your first service or you still get the next 5k and 10k service free?

The so-called "free first service" is just a tire rotation and "check". There is no scheduled oil change at 5000 miles. So whether you change your oil at 1,000 miles or not, the 5,000 "free service" would still be worth doing. The "free second service at 10,000 miles" does include an oil change, which I would imagine everyone would do, even if they changed oil at 1,000 miles. So to summarize, even if you change oil at 1,000 miles (I do not), that would not be a reason to skip or change the "free" 5,000mi and 10,000 mi services.

I believe I will request and pay for an oil change at the 5k check and then take them up on the free oil change at 10k.
