One thing CCN never seems to discuss is any hard data. Its usually sermons.

At least this guy tries to provide some data-driven analysis. While not statistical, it still provides some level of empirical measurements than sermons. Not that I watch either much.

I try since it is turbo to do 5K and not go complete 10K, I do same with my BMW as they are even longer at time. Due to heat with Turbo it is for sure chewing up that oil.
It very min cost $150 most for 60-90K cars.

I've had turbo engines forever and haven't chewed up any oil yet going 10k between changes. You can change it every month if it makes you feel good, but there's little if any benefit vis a vis doing what the manufacturer recommends.

It used to be that most manufacturers had a "Severe Service" interval that actually included average driving. Lexus provides clear information on exactly who should be changing their oil every 5k, and it is not the average driver.

I know there are some Germans cars that monitor engine oil attributes with sensors, but I have no idea how well they work...perhaps they just look at the clarity of the oil?

For BMW what I could find online is the sensor measures the dielectric value of the oil against a dielectric constant (value) to determine the contamination level of the oil.

One thing to also think about is my BMW takes almost 8 quarts of oil, where the RX takes 5.5 so there is a lot more oil in the BMW before it breaks down. Still I think it is cheapest investment if your going drive high end car to just change the oil and use premium fuel.
When it brand new it extremely important not go past 1k on that oil, there was def good amount of metal in that filter and oil for both cars after that first change. I would at least change it when it's brand new to clear out that crap at 1k min.

Is there empirical evidence and measurements on this that can be linked ? While I did do mine at overall 5K (which likely equates to about 1K - 2K for my gas engine portion of my mileage), I would like to know more about this in a measured/methodical manner, if such can be cited. Such as a scientific paper or report. I think the Motor Oil Geek convinced me, but I'd like to know more.

If it was truly important, Lexus would recommend it. Any metal in the filter is harmless, and any metal left in the oil is of harmless size, the larger bits having been filtered out.

That by itself is not an rationale at all, certainly not data driven. That sounds more like religion to me. Hence the reference to tribology references, if there exists.

This sounds quite rational to me on the other hand, including the capitalistic incentives in place behind Lexus/Toyota recommendations:

Until someone can prove Lexus recommendations are wrong, I'll follow them and assume they are best practices. I've been following manufacturer recommendations for over 40 years. They have always been conservative.

Agree 100%. My vehicle manufacturer and oil manufacturer both say 10,000 miles. Like you driven six Lexus's over one million miles and of course no engine problems. As I stated earlier guy on YouTube driving a Tundra 1.5 million miles with original engine and 10,000 mile oil changes.

I will also change every 10,000 miles. However, I decided the initial 1K - 5K mile was worth my investment, just as Shell Nitro+ is worth my investment.

On the other hand, my 12 V battery experience, and this report below - doesn't really inspire me into a Lexus-faithful unlike many in this forum (or any other capitalistic entity faithful, for that matter). Note that Lexus/Toyota only elected to do this, after NHTSA tagged this problem as a "safety" issue - rendering the problem impacting, well, the capitalistic rear-end of Lexus/Toyota.
