Default Interesting change in the spare on the 23s

We picked up our new RX Friday and I noticed a change in the spare. Instead of the 5 spoke wheel on the spare, it's a steel wheel. No issues with gas cap fitment as some others complained of a couple few months back.

Decontenting has been a thing for years now. Saves a bit for the automaker.

The steel wheel is probably lighter anyway. It's not like either wheel is good looking.

The wife is going to drive me nuts though learning everything on the car. She's in love with her new ride but has much to learn. I'll finally do a formal intro post when time and weather allow me to detail it and take pictures.

I really doubt a steel wheel is lighter than alloy. In fact, I am certain it is not. But it is a lot cheaper.

There are other variables that come into play, no one answer is truly correct for a specific comparison.

I’m pretty sure my 4th and 3rd generation RXs had steel wheel spare tires also. I don’t think this “decontenting” is new for 2023.

Be happy it has an actual spare, My CRV Hybrid had one of those flat fix cans and an air compressor. Supposedly there was no room due to the hybrid battery. Lot's of cars are going this route to save $ even thought I would pay extra to have a real spare even if it was one the donut types.

First mod I made on my Golf R was buy the entire spare tire kit that comes on them in most of the world.

I'm surprised they do that with TPMS sensors.

‘’THIS! Not only glad there is a spare but Lexus did not install “run flat” tires on our vehicle. My Audi had them and it is not a better idea.
