I complained to the dealer that "walk away lock" button on rear liftgate does not usually work. He did some testing and said that the fob must be present in a FRONT pocket or the very front of a purse. You need to stand 2.5 feet away and face the car when pressing the button. Pretty specific! Have not tested it yet myself.

Push the walk away and lock button, wait there for the beep, and then walk away. That’s the secret.

Well at least your dealer didn't tell you that's not what it's for after talking to a bunch of different service techs and supposedly looking it up. They said it's to adjust the height of the door. So a few weeks later, I took my car there to get washed and I showed them exactly what it's for a how it works. OMG

The LEFT tailgate button is the one that adjusts the opening height of the door.

The RIGHT button is the walkaway one.

I agree with @Urlik it takes some getting used to to make it work. You don't press the button AFTER you want to walk away...you press it BEFORE. Then you have 30 seconds to gather your cargo before walking away.
