The "shop around" approach works until you reach a certain age. As you move deep into your senior years, if you don't have an established history with a company "in the bag", you may find your rates rising astronomically or not being able to get insurance at all. No one is going to write a new policy on an 80 year old.

good point. Along those lines: we saved a bunch of money years ago by shifting to the AARP coverage by The Hartford...for obvious reasons it's a demographic that appeals to them. Give it a try...you may have to join AARP for $12....

As far as aging towards 80 is concerned, you can mitigate some of that possible price increase by taking a safe driving course thru them....I'm not there yet, but know folks who have done it.

‘I used the Hartford from AARP for years. Never have a single ticket my whole life and then I got a ticket for turning right on a red light when post no turn on red. I was the third person to do so but for some reason the nice officer picked me for the ticket. I paid $150 to take an online safety course but Hartford STILL raised my rates by 75%! Ouch.

How many years will this lonely ticket haunt me!

ouch! Yeah, they'll use any excuse I guess....I got my first speeding ticket in 40 years this winter, fortunately it was out of state and they evidently didn't report it to my state (they just wanted their money).

Florida is bad for insurance rates, but the way people drive here its no surprise. We're paying $2,275 for 6 months for both my 23 ES and wifes RX through Geico and rates keep going up. Had them for years and are still the cheapest for us.

yes, I've been told your uninsured motorist problem is a (the?) major contributor.

Uninsured motorist is skyrocketing all over the country, especially in states that give out drivers licenses to anyone. They get a license, get a junker used car, get an insurance card, pay for the first month, drop the policy, and they are on the road and they can't be touched. When registration renewal time comes, they get another policy for one month and repeat.

I tell you what is strange, I originally had ordered an RX500H 72K had vin got my new rate on Geico which wasn't that much of increase then 2019 Fsport. Due to issue at time they were having I decided I go with 350 F sport which had 64K MSRP, I plug vin in and rate was over 200 more for 6 months vs RX500H. I couldn't believe it as 500H should be for sure more expensive to fix plus is a lot more performance. It is so strange, I noticed it as well when I went from regular 350 to 350 f sport the insurance went up about the same, I mean it is same engine etc, but I think it has do with that it called F sport which is really crazy.

If you didnt see my other post in car chat, never any moving volitions only me and spouse both mid 40s, have garage , my new premium with Geico total 3,400 for 6 months for 23 ' RX350 F sport 20' Audi Q3 in NY. Unreal...

I have a 2017 RX 450h with 90,000 miles
I'm on the waiting list for 23 or 24 RX 350h. I just called my insurance company and they said it would be an increase of $95 every 6 months to get the new RX.

With the massive increase in auto crimes (theft, etc) and carjackings, if you live near any major metro urban area, rates are going way up to be sure.

Ontario here, just west of Toronto. I jsut got our renewal for the year starting next month. An increase from our 2010 450h of about $850 CAD including taxes per year. I was also warned before this renewal that if I didn't do one of the recommended after markets anti theft approved options it would have gone up much more. We did get ours fully tagged just to minimize the increase. That was a kick in the stones! We have no claims or tickets, clean record.

I also did get some additional 3rd party quotes, appears we are getting a deal.

What is your annual premium if I might ask? And the carrier? Also, Lexus is #2 vehicle stolen in Canada right now - the Honda CR-V is #1

Florida has the highest insurance rates for everything. Many are doing without homeowners insurance as the rates have skyrocketed and more than doubled. If your roof is over 10 years old they demand a new roof, even if you have a 25 year roof installed. My auto insurance went up $700 a year for my RX350h compared to my year old Platinum 150.
