Default Electronic shifter pattern?

Maybe a crazy idea but wouldn’t it make more sense to move the shifter left then forward for D and left then backward for R?

haha, i've considered the same thing. it is what it is and we develop the muscle memory either way. At this point it would probably do more harm than good to change it in future models.

Reverse is above neutral and Drive is below neutral. This is more consistent with the average drivers muscle memory, imo.

I think this is an industry standard. My bmw m3 with dct and audi sq5 both had reverse being up and drive being down.
