How can I ensure A/C is automatically on?

If you set it to auto it should stay on auto and the car will run the AC if it needs to.

I had to do all kinds of test to finally understand how it works. The lights on the AC touch buttons are not intuitive but this is how it operates:
1- If the AC is off when you turn off the car, next time you turn on the car the AC remains off.
2- If the AC is on when you turn off the car, next time you turn on the car the AC comes on but the AC touch button is NOT lit.
3- If the AC was off and you start the car and turn on the fan, it starts the AC, if you touch the AC touch button, it turns off the AC but the fan stays on, until you touch the AC again to turn it on.
4- If you just use the Auto, then it always strays on, whenever you turn off the car and start the next time.
5- Note- If you have the 350h or 450h, and you have the AC ECO mode on, the AC is running but at the ECO management power, meaning it regulates as how much the AC compressor is working.

The real answer to the question is for the car to simply remember your last settings like every other car I have ever owned in my life. Why does the car think it knows what I want better than me? I shouldn't have to spend the first two minutes after starting the car EVERY TIME to get the settings back to the way I want them. The A/C function is only one.
Every setting should remain indefinitely until the driver chooses to change them.

I suspect the issue is the way Lexus changed the A/C Indicator light (that is to say what illuminated means now). As long as the AUTO is set, ignore the A/C light. When the A/C light is on, that is essentially manual override. When the A/C light is off, it does not mean the A/C is off.
I know strange, but it is not clearly explained in the owner's manual.
First car I ever owned that runs A/C with the A/C light off.

Mine works as expected. It is set to auto and remembers the HVAC setting. Not sure why others are having issues. ![Dunno](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/13879dunno.gif)

I notice in AUTO the blue light is not illuminated? My prior Lexus cars had A.C. running all the time unless manually defeated. Any insights on this?

Yes, Lexus changed the way it works.
When the "AUTO" button is highlighted, and your desired temperature is set, the A/C will cycle off and on as needed without the A?C light being illuminated when it is on.
When you enable the A/C manually by pressing the A/C button, the blue light comes on.
Iy appears your post was combined with a previous one that explains in detail. Read from the beginning for more clarification.
