2024 Lexus RX vs. 2024 BMW X5

À 10years décision
Took me 2 years to make my decision on RX350h.
A suggestion to help you in your process is making a list with the most important criteria and a pondération on each of them
And be honnest with yourself.
for example myself I like sport car but I am a very slow driver, prefer good gas mileage and smooth drive at the end.
About hybrid, it can be very interesting depending if you do more city than highway
if you live in the north of the country you will have some months that hybrid is not very useful.
i think the RX450h+ is the best option, but more money and also more wait time to get it
also do a check with insurance, you can have a surprise
Now 6 months with my RX350h, very happy. Good gas mileage on eco mode and on sport mode the response is quite nice
only flaw, 21 inch wheel have few options on winter tire
About run flat on your X5, for me it was a nono, that can be personnal but I had a high ponderation on this

I had the run flats on my previous two 5 series - the Pirellis were terrible, later the Goodyear's were better, I imagine the latest generation is even better than that.

Yea, im gonna call BS on that residual value rating.
I was shopping around my 500H because I missed the driving dynamics of my X6 and the best offer i could get was 53K on a 72K MSRP suv.

First time poster and no, I'm not a troll let me first say. We've been a Toyota family for many years with a 4runner, Sienna, and Tundra. We're well aware of toyota's (and lexus) reliability which in our book is one of their best characteristics. We've been eyeing a new Lexus RX for awhile and were waiting for updated model even though we truly wish they had kept the V6. Anyway, now please hear me out...has anyone been keeping up with BMW's too? My wife (and a little bit of me too if I'm honest) have always admired BMW's for their looks, refinement, and they really do drive exceptionally well. I've always thought about the phrase..."like to drive a BMW but love to OWN a lexus" as BMW typically has not been reliable generally and a fair amount costlier to maintain. However, the last 5 years BMW seems to be doing much better especially among vehicles with the B58 engine. I'm specifically referencing Consumer Reports coverage of how the BMW brand was 3rd most reliable last year (lexus =1 and toyota =2) and when you look up the 2024 BMW X5 its overall score is now a 92 while the 2024 RX is 78 and the X5 reliability is now a score of 5 out of 5 while the RX is 4 of 5. We are so tempted by the BMW X5 but I'm finding it hard to get over all the horror stories I've heard over the years. I know this is a lexus forum, but are there any other level headed folks out there who've noticed this and what are your thoughts? Are pigs flying?

From what I've been reading on this forum about all the problems with the 23 and 24 RX, and having owned Lexus cars for over 25 years, BMW's are looking pretty darn good right now!!!

The new 2024 X5's are having lots of issues. The pre LCI 2019-2023 are pretty good tho

Realistically I do not see BMW X5 and RX being crossed shopped. If someone who like the BMWs drives buys a Lexus, they will be disappointed.
Lexus caters to a different customer base, even if they are trying to portray themselves as sporty now.
Amongst Japanese manufacturers Acura is a much better match to BMW than Lexus. Or Genesis
Lexus is smooth, soft and plush with a hint of somewhat better long term reliability, plus more economical than the german rivals.

RX can be a very good complement to BMW.... YES it can be.
We have BMW i4 40eDrive and RX 450h+.
For fun i4 can deliver silently, but for comfort - RX rule.
My wife keeps stating:" being driven in BMW i-4 is like business class, but in Lexus is like being driven in first class" - what else I can say
Just my 5 cents after 3 months of experience.
We will see how things plays out after our 5k miles road trip this Christmas.

The price points on the different trims can vary quite a bit between both models. If you're looking into a base level trim for the RX350, check out this review. The BMW price of entry is a little higher. I personally owned an F90 BMW M5, and despite it being a different vehicle class and model - let me tell you that the experience I had with BMW North America regarding a well known issue on the M5's, which left my M5 in the shop for 1/3 of my time owning it, will never have me going back to BMW. They didn't want to do anything about making my ownership experience any better, and forget about extending any sort of warranty for the vehicle to give me peace of mind if I decided to retain ownership. I basically paid M5 price for driving it 2/3 of the time while owning it. I'm not saying that you'd experience the same with the X5, it's just the BMW corporate mentality is not customer centric, like Lexus. Nevertheless, enjoy the review below:

Pole Position
They are completely different vehicles built by two manufacturers with completely different focuses. The RX can't keep up with the acceleration of the BMW and the BMW can't keep with with the low maintenance cost, low depreciation and dependability of the RX. Could care less how a SUV handles and accelerates at the very bottom of my priorities.

They might be close in price point, but they cater to different audience.
BMW is sporty and fun to drive, higher total cost of ownership.
RX is meant to be smooth, softer and more reliable, hence lower total cost of ownership.
I personally think anyone that likes and prefers the drive of a BMW WILL be disappointed with any Lexus.
