I don’t understand this fascination with leasing, unless you can write it off. You can buy a car and still trade it in before the warranty expires. If you like the car, you keep it and still have the super low interest rate that you had when you bought the car. As opposed to having to buy it after 2or 3 years and pay the much higher interest rate. Unless it’s all about the lower payments.

There are also special cases like with the RX450h+ where you can get a $7,500 incentive if you lease, but not if you buy. We bought anyway, because our mileage is high and not predictable.

Consumer Reports Lexus tied with Toyota for #1 in reliability. J D Power ranks Lexus #1 in dependability. Post you data where and who says Lexus reliability is way down. I am sure you are just not posting your opinion.

Having been paid to do reliable designs of complex enterprise systems, I can assure you that reliability of products is as much a culture, as it is science/engineering.
Outside work, having owned an Audi and having read what is reported with facts about BMW, I am convinced that reliable designs are not part of German (Audi, VW, Merc and BMW) culture. On the other hand, Porsche might be different. Reliable designs/manufacturing or not, become part of a company's DNA. If you are reading the current news about how Boeing cut corners everywhere to nosedive (figuratively and literally, the latter costing hundreds of lives) - its because of the Boeing company's current culture (across decades, of cutting corners) that has been embedded by poor leadership.

The idea that Lexus has suddenly decided to throw away a sterling reputation is ridiculous to me.

It's just normal. You can't fix issues that you don't know exist and for a big company it takes a while to fix them.

Speaking of Consume Reports, in it's March issue the Rx was voted one of the least satisfying Luxury midsized SUV's. They mentioned the controls and that they should be more user friendly. The NX plug in hybrid was voted one of the most satisfying for compact Luxury SUV'S and its controls are similar the the RX? BMW wasn't mentioned.

The people that have problems complain. The people that don't rarely post. Go to any automobile forum and you'd think all vehicles are unreliable. The reality is that all automobiles have some problems. Lexus is the most reliable among them though.
I think back on the '80s and am amazed at how far automakers have come.

The cost of owning those German vehicles are higher than Toyota.I'm talking service, tires, cracked windshields, even oil changes which don't have dip sticks to check yourself.
I know this because my brother is german car nut, and complains about the $950 per tire for his wife's Cayenne (if in stock), and the $3000 (special order) windshield for his Panamera. imo Audi, BMW, Benz, & Porsche are the ones to lease if you just want the German driving experience which is great and
then return it when the warranty runs out.

Wow, I thought it was bad when they took away transmission dip sticks. Now they are taking away the oil dip stick. I guess that's so when the engine seizes because it burned too much oil, they get to sell you a new engine.

No engine oil dipsticks in Audis for years. You go through a process on the info screen, lift you right leg for three seconds, say cheese and voila - it shows you the oil level (in theory).
