My Volvo showed the oil level on the infotainment screen. So in some ways it's actually easier for the average person to check/know their oil level.

If it's accurate. The Lexus app will tell you if the level is okay as well but can you trust it? I like seeing it on the stick. Call me an old fart.

The Volvo actually shows a gauge and shows you where it falls between min/max -- just like a dip stick. It's not just an "okay/not-okay" light.

It's just normal. You can't fix issues that you don't know exist and for a big company it takes a while to fix them.
I had a 2000 RX bought new, it was flawless!!

There's a bit more tech on today's cars! Your 2000 had little to go wrong in that department.

Do you think that no one had any problems with 2000 RXs? Reliability is a relative thing. Some people had problems with their 2000 RXs and some had none. Some people will have no problems with their 2024 Lexus RX and some will.

We have 7,700 trouble-free miles with our 2024 RX. Others have had problems in the first 100. The 2000 RX was the same in that regard.

2000 RX was the 3rd year production of that car. 3 years to fix issues that arise after production starts.

yep, I'm looking forward to the Consumer Reports edition coming up (April perhaps) in which they have extensive reliability data from owners which I have found to be very helpful in the past, not to mention accurate from my personal experience, item by item.. I get it that people paying a lot of money for a new car post about problems here, I would too, but that doesn't mean the problems are particularly widespread...our 2013 RX has never had a problem, nor has our 2023...

As for maintenance, the RX service schedules are very easy to deal with, and if you go to non Lexus places for routine stuff it's amazingly inexpensive....my pals with German cars love the technology but hate the expense...

Starting to think it's best to keep a warranty on any car you plan to keep.

This provides for some interesting read. And matches my personal, regrettable experience with Audi/VW

“Let’s not forget TOYOTA” uses a BMW Motor”????? I owned a company that was a Tier 1 supplier to all Toyota facilities in USA before selling it and retiring. I never saw any evidence of this. Toyota builds their own engines. BMW builds their own engines. I’m cross shopping a PHEV now and narrowed to BMW X5 xDrive50e and RX450h+. I currently drive the BMW iX50, wife has the RX500h F Sport. I’m leaning back to BMW.

I believe that refers specifically to the Toyota Supra and BMW Z4, which do share an engine. https://www.motor1.com/news/298196/t...e-explanation/

Got it. I was reading in the 2024 Lexus RX vs. 2024 BMW X5 forum. I have been a Toyota/Lexus guy for 25 years, as my wife and I owned a company that supplied automation and robotics to all the Toyota/Lexus plants in North America. We’ve been buying new cars every 2 years, so almost every year a new purchase for ourselves, plus buying Toyotas for the company vehicles. Most have been Toyota/Lexus, a couple BMW’s, an Audi A6, and a F-150 and Ram. We sold the company in 2015 to a bigger Corp., and walked away with easy early retirement. I recently purchased a ‘23 BMW iX50 as I wanted to try the EV. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. My wife is driving a Lexus 2024 RX500h F-Sport. I’m about at the 2 year mark and ready to change to a Plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Narrowed to Lexus RX450h+ or the TX, but did not much care for the TX. Other option is BMW X5 xDrive50e. Driven them all. BMW of course is the top driver, amazing power from in-line 6, w/ plug-in hybrid but still looking at RX. I don’t like the Lexus Dealer “wait till we might get one someday” process and lack of being able to configure a $70K+ vehicle. Plus the unknown on color/options of the RX450h+. BMW offers an ordering of exactly what you want, and you get it in 3-4 months. I’m in no hurry as iX50 is great to drive, but I’m making more longer trips and charging in rural KY, TN, and NC is sketchy sometimes. Thats why I’m reverting back from EV. I likely may be going back with another BMW. Long term ownership costs are not an issue since I trade every 2 years.

Be aware that anecdotally there appears to be issues with keeping the 12V battery charged on the 450h+. This could strand you. Jury is still out if it’s bad batteries or bad software but it’s starting to lean towards bad software not keeping it charged.

This, with current data available - which doesn't appear anecdotal but statistical/systemic at this point with the number of people reporting it — it’s a design flaw. Irrespective of the root cause. In a Lexus, selling for its reliability reputation.

If getting stranded in a rural area is a concern, I would stay away from it.
