Default BMW X5 Rx 350

Well it's been a year since we purchased our 2024 BMW X5. I see why Consumer Reports rated it so highly. The smooth ride, quick acceleration, superior handling, braking and comfort are outstanding, it is truly a driving machine. We had a software issue several months ago and instead of having to drive 70 miles to the dealership they sent a technician to our home and he corrected the problem in our driveway, great customer service. Interior is luxurious and electronics are very fructional. So far we are very pleased this purchase. We are still enjoying our 2021 ES 350 Ultra Luxury another great vehicle.

It's a beautiful truck for sure. My daughter and son in law bought one last year. The one thing I'm not a huge fan of is the long narrow curved screen.

I agree 100% those German vehicles are great driving machines. Since yours is new you won't have this latest issue my brother had with his last week.
He purchased his 2020 x5 as a CPO with 45k miles, and purchased the extended warranty. 6 months of ownership the crank case was diagnosed needing to be replaced. BMW flew another tech to the dealership to confirm the $10k repair under the CPO warranty.
I have no idea the cost of a crank case replacement on an RX sure it's not cheap. If this does happen to me hopefully my Lexus will still be under warranty.

Lack of oil changes? what would cause that at only 45K miles?

A common problem with some BMW models the service advisor told my brother. Either way he loves his x5 how long it has warranty on it.

Does a $61k Lexus RX350 and $61k BMW X5 have all the same features - except BMW is quicker/faster and better handling?

I believe the X5 starts at 66k before any options. This can get you a 350 or 350h pretty much optioned out.

Tested a X5 before buying my 23 RX 350H and wasn’t impressed. My neighbor had a BMW and after they wanted over $1000 to fix a headlight she traded it in for a Lexus.

Lexus headlights won't be less if they ever need replacement. The triple beams cost roughly $2,500 each side just for the parts.

In Canada the base RX 350 is about $26,000 cad ($19K USD) cheaper than the base X5.

BMW doesn't have anything with just a hybrid so no competitive model to RX 350h orRX 500h.

X5 plug in base is $3000 more than RX plug in, but the RX 450h+ comes only as fully loaded. The equivalently optioned BMW X5 40 plug-in is about $102,000 vs the RX $90,000. So, $22K CAD ($16k USD) more.

That's a really weird failure. I'm in the BMW forums all the time and have yet to see a crankcase failure. What does happen a lot is the PCV valve fails and the engine starts to run rough at idle at blows white smoke out the exhaust. Needs to fixed promptly or It will damage the crankcase. This is the only thing I can think of other than the 2019/2020 X5's had a crappy oil pump that tends to fail but that would cause oil starvation issues. BTW BMW extended the warranty on the PCV valve to 150,000 miles or 10 years.

Picking between the 2024 Lexus RX and the 2024 BMW X5 can be tough, especially if you’ve always liked Toyota and Lexus cars. Even though BMW has gotten better with reliability, I’d still go with the Lexus RX. It usually has lower maintenance and repair costs compared to BMW, so even if BMW has improved, the RX is probably cheaper to keep in the long run.

I'm a bit surprised anyone is cross shopping both. BMW buyers are looking for performance, Lexus for low maintenance, reliability and a peaceful ride.

This, all day.

Didn't consider a BMW for more than a minute. Reliability, low maintenance cost, and resale value were main considerations.

Home repairs, computer issues, and car repair problems all feel the same. They suck.

My bad it was the Transfer Case. I went deaf when he told me $10k if he had to pay for it.
