You could make this occur less often if you apply wax to the Lexus symbol ("L") in the center of the grille. That way, dirt/rain/snow will tend to slide away and not incapacitate the safety systems.
As was recently mentioned, you should not use cruise control in inclement weather.

I use the cruise control extensively. I have no problem using it in the rain, because it is automatically turned off if the vehicle starts to hydroplane. I have had it automatically turn off when running through deep puddles at speed or in extremely heavy rain which can blind the system. If the system is blinded for any reason, one can switch to conventional cruise control, and it will work again. I use the speed setpoint to speed up or slow down, to stay out of blind spots or to not stay near trucks.

So it sounds like cruise control is more rain and hydroplane tolerant than i realized. I found the system did a great job of lane centering in the rain when the lines were difficult to see. That way I could pay more attention to the traffic.

mack 24, if you couldn't see the lines in the rain, whether due to poor vision, faint lines, darkness, or bad weather, pull over and wait for things to improve. You shouldn't rely on either type of cruise control to "see through" the bad weather or conditions. These systems can't sense ponding water and after you hydroplane, it's too late.

This is just my opinion. I hope your life insurance premium is paid up. I wouldn’t trust the system that much.
