Default 2024 RX350 dip stick is unreadable

Guys,
How in the world are you guys checking your oil levels? I changed my oil tonight and spent 30 minutes trying to read the oil level. I even resorted to using a magnifying glass and couldn't for the life of me figure out how much oil is in this motor. I used a bit less than 6.5 quarts of 0w-20 Mobil 1 and that stuff is like crystal clear water.

To be honest I have not used a dipstick or checked my oil in years.

BMW removed dipsticks years ago and I assumed the industry followed suit. Consequently I got out of the habit of checking anymore.

It did pose a challenge for those changing there own oil having to rely on some digital readout on the dash.

Yes that doesn't surprise me that BMW did that. I'm surprise they didn't turn around and start charging for this option But this was a question about my new Lexus and I rely on my dipstick when I change and or check oil levels.

Have you tried the trick where, instead of looking for the oil level on the 'stick, you lay it down on a paper towel?

After a minute, the oil level will be indicated by a much wider absorption area... where the oil is present on the dipstick.

+++++++++

I feel your pain, tho'. Whenever I start servicing a 'new-to-me' car, I slowly add oil until I'm satisfied with the fill level, then I write the amount added on the under-hood emissions sticker.

'Fresh' oil IS difficult to see because it is so clear. <---clarity varies by brand
Of course, a good oil will turn darker within a few hundred miles, so often I just get it up to what I think is the minimum then top it off later.

Speaking of oil level:

Anyone noticed that on the Lexus app, VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT, > VEHICLE STATUS, there is a status for Quantity of Engine Oil? Our RX has not used a drop that I can tell.

Dealer replaced oil as the complementary service, and after sitting overnight, it is slightly over-filled on the 'stick. Yes, I am aware of the instructions on page 571 of the Owners Manual that say:
Warm up the engine and turn off the hybrid system, wait about 5 minutes, and check the oil level on the dipstick.
Has anyone had the app tell them that the engine oil level is low?
Does the app tell you that the engine oil level is dropping? <---instead of a dark green spot with the check-mark, will it turn to a light green spot, as it is doing with our key fob battery, below?

I wonder if the health report shows minimal level or it will detect over fill as well.

FYI my owners manual shows the 350H has 4.5 quart capacity with filter. The 500H has 5.6 quart capacity with filter. Are you sure you put in 6.5?

I have had the same problem reading the oil level on my wife's RX350 (Turbo). Over my 50+ years of car ownership to check oil level I've always pulled the dipstick, wiped it down, reinserted it, waited a few seconds and then pulled it back out to read the oil level. On the RX this procedure doesn't really work as the oil is "smeared" on the dipstick when it is pulled out the second time. I find the best way to check the oil level on her RX is to just pull the dipstick after the car has set for awhile and then read the level without cleaning the dipstick and reinserting it. When I changed the oil on her car a month ago, after draining the oil and replacing the oil filter I added a little less than the stated refill amount (which is 5.6 quarts for the Turbo) and started the engine. After checking for leaks I turned the engine off, put the used oil into a container and cleaned up the worksite before checking the oil level. That gave time for the oil level to settle. Again, I found that I had to just check the oil level when the dipstick is pulled out the first time.

I just pulled the dipstick on our 350h for the first time. About 2,500 miles on the clock. I saw full to the line as clear as the light of day.

My new 350 only had ~900 miles when I did the first oil change and it was as clear as water. I just checked again tonight after a 300 mile weekend trip and it's still as clear as water and impossible to see. I know the oil will darken in the future so hopefully this helps if it doesn't smear when extracting the dipstick.

I don't get it but perhaps mine has darkened enough after 2,500 miles to see it. But barely darkened.

Yes, I'm sure this will become a non issue as the car ages and the oil gets miles on it. The problem is when changing oil which is typically the only time I check oil levels.

Yeah I sometimes have a tough time seeing it on my ES dipstick right after a change but that's 0w20 a bit thicker. That engine never consumes a drop in between 5k changes.

My RX350 also calls for 0w20. That stuff is so thin.
